I've tried to answer gyprat but must be in grass gyprat ...I'm the KC9 stationwell my 100w is not getting me out of the mud tonite ......i'm out View Quote We have a weather system passing through. Static crashes were at S9+30. We could not copy your station. Maybe we can try some other time. 73! |

Yep, it was pretty noisy.
Bad when stateside folks can't copy a guy running 500W. |

XXSTG...very nice to meet you. You are not on the arfcom spreadsheet that I have. View Quote The STG call sign did look familiar. I have your card hanging on the wall in my other smaller shack, in the house. I ended staying up on that frequency for several more hours while trying to go QRT, but people kept calling and calling. It was fun though. Several guys were at S9+30 and the static noise was not a problem. Maybe we can try it again next week. Thanks for joining the net or whatever it was. I'll be in the shack again in about a half hour (around 6:00 PM, ET) and will post a frequency in "Who Is On The Air" thread. 20 meters may be open and will be a good place to start. I doubt I can hear you as we are too close. Switching to 80 meters will take a few seconds though. |

It's Tuesday night again. It seems like very few members are interested in operating their radios in SSB Voice mode.
I'll be willing to play NC (net control) if anyone is interested in having this 80 meter net. 40 meters is another option. 80 has been having a lot of nasty S9+30 static lately. I've been thinking about adding a full size 80m loop at around 70 ft above ground. Either way, post here is anyone wants to have a new tonight. |

I'm in the shack right now and just happen to have a 2 element Yagi at 75ft, for the 40m band. Pick a frequency and I'll meet you there. The band is pretty packed right now.

Thanks for the nice 40M QSO, Gyprat
The problem with this thread is that it should be labeled "Tuesday evening SSB net", i.e. leave out the "80 meter" part. 80 meters is good for local/regional, but it's not going to get a good net going most of the time. These days 40M is where it's at in the afternoon evening, and even then, with the paltry number of sunspots we've got, it's not going to provide full CONUS coverage. |
Elcope, sorry it did not work out. Propagation has been up and down this evening.
AA777.., Thanks for the nice QSO. Sorry I had to leave early. Right now, I'm sitting outside with my laptop and grilling some chikin, so we have some for tomorrow. Did you hear that AD4* guy who kept repeating his call sign while we were talking? I don't think he could hear either one of us. LOL. You are correct. We may need to rename this net. 80 meters is probably not the best choice unless we called a local net. I bet many guys don't have enough room for 80m antennas. 40 meters is a better choice for winter time. 20 may work well during summer as it usually stays open through late evenings. Anyone reading this who agree to rename this thread, please post your opinions. |
Agreed, a lot of folks don't have any 80M capability and many that do are using compromise or less than ideal setups.
Furthermore, and maybe this is a flawed perception - it seems that a lot of guys just don't even try to get on the voice portion of 3 MHz. Any time I've tried using voice on 80/75 it has been a battle to find room among the kilowatt powered discussions of old country buffet and ailments of the pancreas, I've even seen this a few times when we try to run the "net." 40 may be crowded, but it's generally far more friendly. |

I sent a PM to OP with a request to rename this thread. Obviously it's just a request. It's his thread and he is the boss.
Hopefully he will agree. I have not seen him post anything in a while. Hope he is doing well. |

With that antenna I was keeping a regular schedule with a friend in SC using only the 15 watt KX3. I did add your recommended line to the title. May take the old one off after people get used to the new name. I've been busy working on the aquaponics system for the school in the Dominican Republic. Will be back there in one more week. Thank you. We may have a better luck with the new net.
Good luck with your project in HI land. Holler if you want to try a QSO with SC. |

Is the net going to go on tomorrow night? I can be on 40 or 80 anywhere you want to meet tonight or tomorrow.

I have been listening all over tonight. 80 20 40 heard an Ohio ARES check-in on 3.898.
I'm hearing the the CQ call loud and clear, don't think I'm able to get over the noise with my 15w..
Well it was worth a try. The guys up on 3.902 are splattering down to here at times. Where are you? You heard my W9WB call? I'm in IL.
NW Detroit burbs. Yes, heard your call-you sounded really good.

I could also hear you but guess you did not hear me, I am in Orlando with only a wire dipole and always have a hard time with 80.

looks like a fairly long winded QSO on 3.898, you guys tell me where to move to and i'll move there
3.898 is clear now, a lot of adjacent traffic but the band is pretty noisey
Sorry, I have not been feeling well for a net. Maybe we can try again next week, on 40 meters?

Been browsing some but not posting a lot. Been posting more on the facebook NOPTA, SOTA, and QRP groups. Since a storm took my home antenna down I only get on the air portable and from our club station. I sucks to use that station. TH11dx on a 100 ft tower just doesn't compare to a 29 ft wire. You guys gonna try tomorrow night? What time. My 80m setup is a OCF dipole and does pretty well on 100w usually.
How about we try 40 meters first? What time do you think will work best for tomorrow night? I can play net control as long as you don't mind hearing my southern accent.
If 40 meter fails, we can try again on 80 meters. |
If I remember (and can sneak away from the fam for a few minutes) I'll give it a holler.
How about we start the net at around 8:00 PM, Eastern time, on 40m SSB ? I'm open for suggestions.

In my experience, 40m falls apart after dark but we can try. It being Vday may complicate things but maybe after 8? LMK a freq and time. View Quote It usually stays in decent shape till about 10:00 PM on most days, at this time of the year. I worked a bunch of DX yesterday after 9:00 PM |
