What is this sticker that came with my new reel?

Have you ever bought a scope or scope rings that came with little pieces of "friction tape"? It's probably just like that. It gives the smooth surface of the reel a way to "bite" onto the smooth surface of the rod. That's my guess.

Ah ha! Well that settles that. Makes sense too. All my reels came with an extra braid spool that had a rubber ring on the spool to grip the line, so I've not seen the tape.
