THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT The book is basically about an unemployed and unprepared 41 year old primary school teacher who needs to get back to his wife and kid after a massive EMP/CME type event. His family is vacationing in Tennessee with his in laws while he is stuck at home in Texas trying to dump the house they are underwater on and can't afford. Then things go to crap and he needs to get back with his family. Not too much of a spoiler: For those who hate everyone always just walking––- He starts out with a bike (and a cart!), and is definitely open to upgrades along the way.LOL |

I just started Terawatt today. The story isn't too bad, but the writing - especially in the beginning - is terrible. The story is told from the 1st person point of view, and the sentence fragments and attempts at humor get very annoying. It's started to dwindle as I've progressed through the book.
ETA: Finished it today. The writing improved midway through the book. The end was a bit frustrating. ETA 2: The chapter names are all song titles. |

I just started reading the book too. I'm not as distracted by first person as I am by the fact that the author writes in present tense (something my high school English teacher would freak out about).
I'm looking forward to how the plot goes and the adversity faced by the main character. |

It's okay so far (about 15% in) but things are developing too quickly, in my opinion. Everyone has the impression that the EMP event is global and permanent. How do they know that? For all they know there was some sort of localized HERF event in downtown Dallas. The author just builds up to TEOTWAWKI immediately. Doesn't ring true to me.

Yeah, that was one of the odd parts. I'm pretty sure there is supposed to be a sequel, so I'm guessing he was just awkward with the first installment wrap-up. I would have criticized it more, but since it was only 99 cents I liked it compared to some of the other ones I've unfortunately paid more for and enjoyed less. |
