Survival fiction is very entertaining and a good way to pass some time, it can even be useful. i've found aspects and events in some of these stories to occasionaly prime my thoughs in thinking out problems, and planning out contingincies i hadn't thought of or planned on. these links are also great for those of us whom suffer from insomnia and need something to do at 5:00AM.

I'd be more than happy to add other links to games, tests, or whatever, and espicially more survival fiction. if you post addresses below i'll link everything up so that we don't loose the abality to find all that wonderful information. i'd be willing to kinda act as a "stand-in mod" on this thread, and keep all the stories posted, and organised in one place. As far as the content is concerned, i have not examined all of it, so i claim no responsibillity for anything that sucks.

if you know of something just post the address, and i'll revise/edit this post, and add the links. Thank you, and i hope you enjoy!

TimJ, I read your story, about 2 days to absorb. Kudos, it was complete. It was inspirational and motivating.

Better than that, it has provided some instruction, and some potential resources.
Most importantly, it's something to think about for all.
No such thang as, oh they won't do that or oh that can't happen.
I glean from every thing. Watch listen learn.
Thanks.

Thanks man! Great post, and now it's stickied! I appreciate the link to my story too

One thing though. Now that they moved all the survival ficton to the new forum, all the links to the survival fiction dead end back in survival discussions. You may need to update.

And as for the quizzes and games- I now have something to do at 2:30AM when I can't get to sleep!

i've reset my profile to allow im's but i don't know if will do any good as i don't have aol, im, icq, or anything of the sort, but i'm now allowing anyway...

please define "host", i'll be glad to post a link, if you supply the address, but beyond that... i don't know anything about servers or hosting or anything, not that much of a computer guy beyond email, arfcom, and porn....

maybe frugal squirells page could help, or maybe you could pose your question on the online forum hosted here on ar15, someone there may have some good suggestions....

I have contacted the author of Deep Winter, Tom Sherry about Shatter, and he has requested that Shatter not be posted on the internet, but we are free to pass Shatter around by email, photocopies etc.  So I/we shall abide by his wishes.  IM me if you want a copy.  I have a copy of Shatter that appeared on Timebomb2000.com before Tom pulled it in a dispute over ownership with the forum owner.  Tom Sherry owns the right to Shatter.

K, The story I was telling you about is here,  http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2552003/1/  , I did not find this and so I can't take credit for it. "gmill" posted the original link deep in "Zombies on the interstate". It's a good story, worth checking out.

bad news, the story is down.

I will personally vouch for 'Light-Out.'

Its an awesome read!

'The Bug Out' was also a good short story (with a twist).

In the zombie genre, I read Autumn, which is free. Its the introduction to a series (which you have to pay for ..... and which I have not yet read). Interesting and fairly divergent from the Romero genre.

Thanks for posting the List. Apparently, I've got some reading to do!

By the synopsis and all it almost sounds a little too 2nd Amendment preachy.

It is a little 2nd ammendmant preachy but it covers a lot of actual history about guns in this last century.  Even, though, I found it to be an excellent and exciting piece of fiction.

AMEN!!! shame on you arfcommers who started several wonderful stories, got us additcted, and left us hanging high and dry...

__________________________________________________________________________________

here's a few personal thoughts and opinions of some of the books i've read as of late...

zombie related shtf novels...

like the above poster, i've also recently read "day by day armagedon" by j.l. bourne, it's definatelly worth the read!..

i've also read and will highly suggest "reign of the dead" and "r.o.t.d. apocalypse end", i am now waiting on book in the series "outbreak", to be published. all are by len barnhart and take place mostly here, in and around the shenandoah valley in VA. fellow arfcommer shaddow body turned me on to these books after writing him about his story "humanitys' end", in wich he refferences events in barnharts books. as well as being a very well written couple of novels, with the story being set pretty much in my backyard this series definatelly gets high recgnition and should be a hometown favorite...

"the morningstar strain" saga's first two books "plauge of the dead" and "thunder and ashes" were also both execellent reads, and i'm definatelly looking forward to the third novel in this series as well. i have no e.t.a. yet from author z.a. recht through the couple emails that we have traded as to to when we could expect the next installment. he seems to be a man with a great since of humor at one point in a correspondence i told him he may be the devil, he replied back that infact no, he was not the devil, just one of his drinking buddies!..
ETA: just got another email from the mr. recht, he's in the process of writing the third novel entitled "survivors" as of now, and once he's done, it will take between 3 and 9 months for the third installment to hit the shelves, guess i'll just have to wait...

an alternative history shtf novel...
"1632" a alternative history novel by eric flint mysteriously lands the town and surrounding lands of of grantville WV right smack dab in the middle of germanys' thuringian forest during the struggles of the catholic reformation(hence the title, 1632). i'm normally not a big an of alt.-his. novels but reading about the begining of the "american revolution" 140ish years early, and on the wrong continent was actully quite entertaining. i now have "1633" the sequel on order from amazon. warning, their are a good many novels by eric flint as well as many other contributing authors in this comprehensive saga...

other shtf fiction novels
i just read "patriots, surviving the coming collapse", i'm still taking in everything i read in the novel and formulating an opinion. in short i liked it but found it to be a bit far fetched in some aspects. i'll edit to add a better formulated opinion later...

i have now also traded a several emails back and forth with mr. thomas sherry concerning aquiring copies of "deep winter" and "shatter" and find him to be(at least as so far as you can get an opinion of someone through a few traded emails) extremely gracious and easy to correspond with. he actully contacted me after seeing a post i'd made inquiring about his books. currently he sells them personally for $30 each autographed and shipped. i have a copy of each on order and soon to be in the mail. i am greatly anticipating delving into them. thanks tom! mr. sherry is good people, just buy the books straight from him...

Thanks for the plug, Kar15. I am, in fact, the devil's drinking buddy. If there's anyone you want on your side in the drunk tank at 4 AM on a Saturday morning, it's the Morningstar. =)

not sure where the link to this story came from, i suppose it was eother IMed to me or something that i found listed somewhere under the old forum layout and that i added to the links without reviewing. thank you for bringing this to my attention. i will be removing the link to this unexceptable material immediatelly. if you also find it unexceptable please also edit your posts to remove the link as well. thanks again for the heads up. which link? call it out and i'll read it, if it's straight bunk or as in the lastcase offensive, i'll remove it as soon as possible. as i state in the last post i may have been IMed the link and added prior to personal review, or i may have run across it and quickly added the link so as to loose as little "survival fiction and literature" as possible during the reformat of the forums...

ETA: ok i see what your talking about now. the reason why(how and why are very different), is because i'm a lazy ass and didn't proofeverything i posted, how is because i was on the net one day and a chick friend(exroomate as if it matters) myspaces me a link to a zombie test she had been "forwarded" and thought i'd enjoy. after finishing that test i started searching the site(a matchmaking site it was i believe? maybe ok cupid or something like that iirc is i think is where they came from, my current GF is the pits, maybe i should go back and mess around there some more, oh wait fat chicks never mind, i'll stick with what i gotj/k). anyway, as i was putting together that bigassed initial post on the first page, i went to that okcupid site and searched zombie test, and then searched other similar or semi-relivant keywords(such as "terrorism") on topics i thought some of you guys may enjoy entertaining yourselves with. as the snip(above) from the original page states(not so clearly)is that;

i have not actully reviewed or read much of the material(and yes some of the addresses/links {most-likely including the apparentelly obscene[i still haven't and now will not read it] story in question above} were PMed to me by arfcommers, taking them at their word and trusting them on the content and relivence), i simply added the links to the main page.

if anyone does not like one of the silly quizes please feel free to not take it again or pass it along to anyone else... i have not taken that one and do not know the content of it, if others complain of it, and the general concenses is "it's lib-tard crap" i will remove it from the link page as i did the obscene material link. if this is an isolated complaint, well we all have to put up with occationally differing opinions on this site, as well as in everyday life...

if i get around to getting bored enough to take it, and it does blow, i'll 86 it...

ETA2: jeffers_mz, i have now read it(well part way, and i apologise i should have reviewed all of them prior to posting them, i couldn't even get thought the first page). you sir were/are 100% correct, and this addition shall now become a deletion, file 13 for the conspiracy theory bullshit!...

Do you also consider all the people who married teenage girls during the pioneer days(and earlier) pedophiles? I'd bet there are lots of them throughout history.
I consider Aftermath one of the best post-apocalyptic stories I've ever read, and I've read plenty of them.

I'll be needing some reading material for next weekend.

The link to deep winter is not working in the OP.

Is there anyway I can get a new link by Friday so I can print it out for the weekend?

[Last Edit: Kar15] [#40]
i'll see about the link, but the book is over 600 pages(at least in published, printed, paperback form from the author) not sure it'd be worh it to buy that many ink cartridges, unless your companies picking up the tab or something. tom sherry sells them personally, and is very easy to deal with and ships out fast. costs iirc was $30.00 each for deep winter and shatter but both books were autographed, and cost included shipping... pm me, if you would like his email...

EDIT TO ADD...

apparentelly the story is no longer hosted on frugal squirrels fiction server anymore. However, my google foo was strong tonight and i found it hosted on another site. the link is back up and good to go, it's even broke down into chapters. read and enjoy, but again, the book will be 658 pages of hell for your poor home printer...
