Have to brag just a little on my two sons who, this past weekend, successfully harvested their first elk on public land in Colorado on an OTC tag.   They did their preseason research and lots of scouting. Equally important, they hunted in a hard to access area where you could not take a 4-wheeler.

They had him on the ground at 8:30am but had to backpack the head and meat out 4 miles back to camp, arriving with the first load at 8:00pm that night. That's dedication. Congrats boys!!

Thank you - yes, they are.  We have hunted together since they were 8-10 years old, and it was very hard for me not to be able to join them on this particular hunt.   But then again, I doubt it if I could have been much help hauling that big guy uphill for 4 miles.  Probably could have carried the rifle - LOL

Thats right by me.  ALOT of pressure in that unit being that its right off of the I-70 corridor north of Vail.  Great job to the boys for taking one there...  not an easy task.

No, it's a Christensarms 300 WSM.   The link to their site is below.  I believe he was shooting a Federal Premium 180 gn Trophy Bonded Tip with a mv of 2960fps

Can we get some Texans in here telling us how all the public lands need to be sold and posted "no trespassing" like in Texas so we can have more freedom?

Hi friend.  Just for the record, my two sons pictured in this thread, are both Colorado residents.  One lives in Avon and the other in Denver.  Cheers.
