Private land rifle tag. Cow elk.
3 of us headed out at 5:30 yesterday morning.

I was sitting in an opening. The 2 other guys were sitting in blinds.

I had a bull leading 3 cows walk right up to the opening I was in. Bull saw my shape and didn't leave the thick trees he was in. I had no shot at any of them.

As they passed, I started following them, loudly. I was able to push them right to my friend in one of the blinds. BANG!

It worked out perfectly.

Shot was taken at about 50yds in very heavy timber. Marlin 30-30. He double lunged her. She ran maybe 25yds and dropped.

We were at the spot at 615, and had the cow down by 745. Out of the woods by 9. I was able to pull my Jeep almost right to the cow.

I didn't get any pics of her on the ground but she was huge. Used a come along to get her up on the roof rack. Oh and that Jeep has a 4in lift.

Enjoy!

Glad my wipers worked

38. It's open Sept 1 through Jan.

I have a doe tag too that goes Sept 1 through the end of Nov.

Yeah quite the advantage as the animals aren't that spooky yet.

So we quartered her yesterday with all intention of butchering today.

We started in on it this morning, and the 3 of us decided to have it processed.

Minus the loins and backstrap the quarters and random burger meat weighed in a 236lbs.

The folks at the processing spot do 100 animals a week this time of year and said it was a big cow. Probably 650-700lbs.

Yeah we have some meat for the freezer.

And more cow tags to fill! We have some leads on some other private property that will surely produce this fall.

Super excited, been a great weekend.

Congrats!

I'm puzzled though...did you take the pictures with a vintage 1960's camera and film to get those colors and blurriness?

Only thing to make this better would of been to put that cow on top of a car.

Only if you are recording the wailing and gnashing of teeth for our amusement.

Nice elk!
Might take me a few days of driving to get there but we can get it done.

In CO your public tag can also used on private. Not the other way around.

Public tags are generally good for one of the 4 rifle season.

Private can range from a few weeks to 5 months depending on the unit.
