Yes. Shot placement is key, as with any weapon.

Plenty of elk were killed with 30/30 Winchesters. You just have to know your range limitations and place your shots.

Hell yea it's enough gun in it's range. And you will like it in the timber. This is a 45-70 and it carries much better than my bolt action 300 WM

And Hornady has the 200 gr. Flex tip for 35, sight in 3" high at 100 and you are only couple inches low at 200, which would be your max range anyway.

thanks for the replies! was thinking the Hornady 200gr flex-tips would get-r-done....200 yards would be a LONG shot in the neck of the woods i hunt in anyway, so next year the 35 is going with me....

Been killing elk for a log time. Somewhere ( I think RMEF mag) had a list of the top elk calibers from 1950's and 35 was on it.

What kind of sights/scope are you using?
I am really liking my levergun setup ...2X leopuld on quick release mount. When the snow starts , I pop the scope off and run the iron sights.
Scopes pretty much suck in snowing conditions.
