Just wondering if anyone does this and if so if there are any tips. My current house is in the middle of the suburbs and only has a couple of trees so I likely won't be doing it now, but I have plans to get a different house in the next couple of years and ideally will have a wood fireplace or decorative/functional wood stove and some wooded land. Coppicing or pollarding seem like a good way to have a steady supply of firewood and wood for small craft type woodworking projects.

On purpose? No, but Siberian elm stumps grow like crazy. As in 2-3" shoots in 2 years.

I think pollarding is a big thing in Europe.  It would be a pain in the ass because you would have to have a bucket truck (assuming you're not a tree climber) to trim back to the old cuts every year.  Doing the other process at ground level would probably work on some species, but I would imagine it wouldn't be very good quality wood for burning.
