How do you keep tools with you on your tractor?

I would like to keep a handful of common tools with me on the tractor. Couple adjustable end wrenches and a pair of channel lock type pliers.

Some tractors have small toolboxes mounted on a fender. But mine doesn't.....yet.......

Recommendations?

Ammo boxes.

I have 1 .30 cal mounted on mine and it holds the following; 1 15 foot length of 3/8 chain with hooks on it, 1 pair of hand pruners, extra hitch pin, 1 bungee, 1 pair leather gloves.  If I took the chain out, I could put probably 8 -10 different hand tools.

I suppose a .50 cal can would be even better.

I attached mine with nuts bolts and washers and silicone, that way it stays watertight.

All ours have toolboxes but they get wet over time I'd use a ammo box or if you want to store larger tools get something for large munitions

Where on the tractor do you mount it?

Older Ford's have them on the fenders, our Massey and our John Deere dont have any, so if something goes wrong and you need a tool it's a complicated procedure of either driving it to the shop, or walking of you can't get picked up

I have a JD 790 tractor.  I just mounted a small utility box I had laying around on the right fender with nuts and bolts.  Rattle can JD green spray paint before mounting.  Done.

Kubota L2350DT.

I don't really have enough room to mount it to a fender but could mount it to the roll bar.

That or if you have the flat fender model, ontop of one.  Or to the back of the seat.

I figure tractorbynet has a thread about storage on the tractor same way as this section did a thread on keeping your rifle on the tractor.

I like ammo cans and I would attach it so that it is secure as all get out in case the roll bar is used for its original function, and I would not want the ammo can positioned such that it might hurt me while rolling the tractor around.

I don't have a tractor, just reading threads and letting the envy show.

I generally just throw everything in the front bucket.  Works great until you have to use the bucket.

Wish I had a drink holder on it.

You can buy a tool box from your dealer that mounts on the frame. Make sure it will stay closed. I have found a bunch of tools in fields over the years. And lost some.

Do none of the newer tractors have a tool holder built into the fenders?

The old Massey Fergusons did, and I've seen some other tractors with a slot in the fender and a box over the wheel.

Just curious.

Those tool holders were not large, but enough for basic hammer, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, etc.  My grandfather kept a length of chain in his, too, in case he needed to pull or tow something.

My new 3038E has a small storage area built into the LH fender under the arm rest.  It's big enough for some basic hand tools or some shackles and pins at least.  I don't think any useful sized hammer would fit in there though.

My b3200 has a pretty small plastic box under the seat.   Enough for a screw driver, a crescent wrench, and various spare pins.

Not many places to mount.  Maybe something for an ammo can mount on the
Loaded mount bracketry.

ETA a drink holder that isn't behind me would be Nice.   Just about useless when it's a foot behind the seat.

guys.. theres a whole bunch of room on the back of the seat.

make a bracket that comes out behind the seat.  It will always be out of your way.

The old 1949 Farmall M I grew up with (and still have) had a.30 ammo can bolted on top of the shield over the PTO.

Here is a before and after of the M (my grandfather bought it new in 1949, my father restored it around 2010). There is also a picture of our restored 1947 “Culti-Vision” A that my father and an uncle got back into shape.

No telling how many hours I have behind the wheel on those tractors...

I can remember my Grandfather burning a piece of newspaper inside the distributor cap on that A to dry it out, and making a shield out of a piece of tin, to keep rain water out of the same area.

PVC pipe can be mounted many places and painted to match your tractor.  I can also be sealed to keep water out or make some drain holes.

I have a JD 790 and I drilled 2 small 1/4" holes through the ROPS just above the lights on the fender and put through bolts to mount a 50 cal. ammo box painted JD green. Carries everything I want to plus a length of chain with hooks. Easy peasy.

Vertical pipe with a plug in the bottom is good for hand tools and you can put a chain in there and hook the top edge to retrieve it easily. Just be sure to put some drain holes in the bottom.
