We just installed split rail fencing for a 30x50 area yesterday. I'll be putting up small hole metal fencing on the inside to keep most of the small pests out. I want to run a hot wire on top of the posts to see if that will deter the deer. I have spoken to three people now who have had luck doing so. I don't have electric in that location though unfortunately. Can anyone assist me with setting up solar or a car battery?

You should be able to buy a fence charger with solar power already equipped to run it. Also if your setting it up to help deer from not entering it make sure and have a wire in smaller wire/fence in front or behind the main one. The distance the deer see between the two even though it's not much will help. Think of it this way....i I or I i

I got this:  http://amzn.com/B000HHS8SC

I've not used it in a long time but the batteries lasted about  a month.

I have a few of those - they do a fair job for a small fence, especially if not being grounded out by weeds.

I also have a few self contained solar ones, here.
