I like your GD thread more than this thread now.  Although I think you are accidentally marrying my girl.  Better send her my way before that red hair drives her crazy.

Well went mower shopping today, trying to figure out what we wanted to buy come spring.  Definitely didn't work out how we intended

2016 Bad Boy Outlaw XP 6100 with the Kawa motor.  Cut us a deal we couldn't say no to.

Old mower didn't really chop up the clippings and clumped up pretty bad

New one does a little better

Picked up some more dense shade grass seed earlier in the week.  Had a nice afternoon and rain forecast for the next two days so I decided to go ahead and get it put out.  Had 5 stumps in the area that needed removed.  Dug around them, then sawed them off below grade with the chainsaw then filled the hole back in.  The chain is going to need sharpened

This area is right out behind the house, was 6' horse weeds when we moved in.

Digging around a stump

Bigger stump cut off

Back filled

Seeded, raked in and being watered down

Now only another half acre or so to go

That seed will look good when it comes up.

And nice mower .

I've been very impressed with the grass seed the green house sells.  Better than Scott's in my experience.  I didn't put straw on the seed so a hard rain washed it around some but it is coming up well.

Thanks!  Love it so far.  My only complaint is it could be a little heavier for better traction, already weighs 1230 lbs though .

It's a pretty good view for Indiana!

Fall projects on the list:

Removing a bunch of small trees along the property line in the yard.  Cleaning up the brush we saved all of the small viable trees, need to thin them out a bit.

Trim trees.  Going to borrow my parents Stihl pole saw and trim most of the trees in the yard a little more.

Start getting ready for mulch in the spring.  Need to decide on exactly where we want the mulch to stop, get everything inside that killed off and probably start edging.

Spring list:

A pin oak and a few sections of split rail fence on each side of the driveway entrance.

Mulch around the front of the house and pole barn at minimum

100 or so trees from Arbor Day society planted

More flowers

Block raised bed around one tree in the middle of the front yard

It's never ending

The grass seed is coming up well.  Hope to get some pics tonight.  Starting to spray the wild violets with 2,4-D to get rid of them.  Those things are hard to kill!

Starting to get some grass coming up!  Kinda of hard to see but it came up well.  Few bald spots where a hard rain displaces the seed.  This area is probably 95% shade, the "forest and glen" mix from the local greenhouse does very well in shady areas!

Crops are starting to be harvested, love this time of year.

There are quite a few areas around the edge of the property inleave them alone in.  They look good there and keep the weeds down.  Despise them out in the grass where I mow though

I'm on vacation week after next, hoping to get a lot done around the place, IF I don't end up putting in 12 hour days all of vacation working on the farm for corn harvest

Just curious...what were most of the saplings?  I see one that looks like maybe buckeye or hickory, but I can't tell.  Looks like maybe a hackberry on the right in the bottom one.  Wondering what you have native where you are.

Monsanto obviously stole your corn ears in the dead of night when they found out your corn was pollinated by theirs.  You didn't grow that!
