This is our 2nd year raising turkeys. The first year my step son chose some fancy variety not realizing they were not eligible for 4H and he just basically lost interest. When we slaughtered them for Thanksgiving they both weighed in around 7lbs. Smallest turkeys I ever heard of!

This year we bought 3 Broad Breasted in late June. We just paid an Amish lady to dress them for us because it was only $6.50 each to do the dirty work. They came out awesome!

The biggest one dressed out at 30 lbs! The other two were 25 and 25.5 lbs. We have approximately $2.50 a lb in them.

The first two BBB turkeys I did cleaned out weighed 41 lbs each at only 6 months old. that puts the live bird over 50 lbs. I have another Jake and two hens I'm still feeding. He should give 45 lbs and the hens maybe 30. In another two weeks (seven months).

Birds this big are a pita. You have to halve them to bake or fry. They don't fit in anything. But they sure look cool.

I'm actually glad they didn't come out that big! The rack in my oven is bending a bit and it barely fits in to the pan we bough. We could probaby cook one a bit bigger than this but it wouldn't fit into a bag much bigger. I really like my turkeys to turn out moist.
