We think the fitting was cracked and adding grease to it that day just cracked it more to the point the pto spinning at high speeds just shot it and any grease out until it ran dry and broke under load......was wondering what popped me in the back until I noticed it wasnt cutting anymore XD

Every winter I prune a lot of trees and clean up any dead or down trees.

I use my tractor carry all the debris to the spot where I will burn it about this time of year.

I also use the tractor to carry all the stuff I need for burn day and to push the pile up as it burns.

When it was almost completely burned up, I used the front end loader to haul some water to put it out.

Usually just let it burn completely but the wind was blowing and I wanted to be done with it.

Then spent a couple hours mowing with my ZTR

Here are a couple videos.

First is a time lapse of burning. Should have put camera way closer.

Second is a short video of the fire. Can't believe I held the phone in portrait mode.

What's on the planting agenda this year? Farmers around here are trying to get corn and peanuts in now.

Correction, farmers are trying to get some good dove hunts planted before it's too late

you.  can't.  make.  this.  up.

yesterday afternoon, while in the midst of changing the oil on my tractor, the oil filter adapter wrench thing BROKE.

yes, BROKE.

the insert that was spot welded on to the wrench cup to allow for mating with a 3/8" drive ratchet broke off.

i attached the wrench to the ratchet, placed the wrench over the oil filter, and attempted to remove the oil filter.
with VERY LITTLE TORQUE applied the insert broke off the wrench, and there i was holding onto this $2.49 piece of low-labor-rate-region shit.
i used this wrench maybe -- maybe -- 6 times in the last 6 years.

On he other side of the case is a 4840 with rock picker and out of sight is the other 8400 hooked up to the planter

Planning corn again this year don't do much with beans could start picking rocks any day now and then weather pending anhydrous soon

Maybe try lubing the shaft splines with high moly content grease when you reassemble it.

Looks from the rust that you are getting moisture in from the pump shaft side.

It's a bad design. It is actually separate from the gearbox so no oil gets to it. No grease ZERK, nothing. It will get some on assembly though. Dropped off pump today to get fixed.

on the BX, the engine side cover is all but flush with the top of the filter.  the manual says spmething on the order of "remove engine side cover to change filter" but that is like 25 minutes of my life i want back.  a top-of-filter adapter makes changing the filter a 90 second process.  assuming, of course, the adapter stays in one piece.  lol.  i have never removed the side cover to replace the filter, but a strap (or chain-type) filter wrench is a no-go.

google images to the rescue...

how you are supposed to access it:

what the reality is (and btw it's not as bad as it looks -- it's a snap to get out with the top-of-filter adapter even with the FEL attached):

btw

Kubota as-shipped-from-factory filters are dark grey (see top image above and below).  ps: engine oil AND hydraulic HST filters.
Kubota replacement OEM parts filters are white (see bottom image below).   ps: engine oil AND hydraulic HST filters.

ergo:
if you are looking at a Kubota tractor for sale and the owner says "oh sure, i change those filters all the time, i'm very good about those sorts of things", and any filter is dark gray, the owner is FoS.

No tractor action recently, but my dad picked up a log splitter yesterday. My whole life we've always split all the firewood we deal with by hand, but he's been wanting a hydraulic splitter for at least ten years now, and he finally got one. I actually kind of enjoy splitting by hand, but while using this guy isn't much of a workout it's still kind of fun.

Anyway it was delivered by the place he bought it from yesterday. Had a ball hitch setup which my dad didn't have. So I moved it for him with the Tacoma and we tested it out on some oak. Split everything without trouble; much of it while big was fairly straight grained, but even the stuff that was a little knotty went easy.

that would be great I wish I had a sawmill to use I just took down that cottonless cottonwood tree last weekend and all the sawmills that buy lumber never called me back. I may put the thing on some local forsale groups and see if I can get any bites otherwise I will just cut it as far as I can with chainsaw and split it.

Ah hah.  Think I am onto something.

The appearance reminds me of an issue with a motorcycle I had once.  The Kawasaki Vulcan 750 had a VERY similar system for the rear drive shaft.  They were all improperly lubed at the factory and if you didn't take it apart and re-lube it with high moly content grease, they would fail and when they failed they looked very similar to your issue.

I'd love to see the pictures of the upper portion of the transmission that you removed to get to where you are with that.

Here's what the motorcycle issue looks like when improperly lubed (this one is really bad)

This is what I would use to lube those splines before you put it back together.

Ahh....yup. looks very similar. I'll definitely get some of that grease and use it during assembly.

Bill for reworking my pump is going to be around $850. They said the pump looks pretty good so no other parts (other than a seal kit I imagine) are needed. Should have it back by early next week and start to reassemble.

RE: filter wrenches.
When I was a kid and could barely afford an oil filter let alone a specialty wrench, we just stuck a screw driver through the side of the filter and  twisted it off. Put new filter on with your hands and check for leaks. All done.

the ones with the fingers tend to slip but I have had little issue with filters using this. it wont slip it will crush the filter with the torque then it will spin right off after the tool man showed me it was a no brainer... but I bought it off a tool truck so I paid way more than $10 I have still gotten every cents worth out of it.
