Got partially caught up on some bush-hogging with the 3038e...

work in progress on some fallow field areas at the acreage.

No pics, but used the 1025R FILB to lift & move a finish mower from the trailer without having to unload the 3038e (which needs to go back tomorrow to finish bush-hogging...).  Finish mower needs some work & easiest done at the house rather than at the acreage.

Knocking down what little live grass is left while this extreme heat is keeping it in check. My dad bought this tractor new from the local Deere dealer in '94, and I was born in '88. Been riding on it as long as we've had it, and been driving it since I was nine. Dead reliable and has never given us much fuss. We've used it for everything. Having a tractor out here is a must if you have any sizable amount of land.

Not so much with the tractor as for the tractor ...

Finally got around to putting together a dolly for storing/moving the 260 backhoe when it gets dismounted from the 1025R FILB.   The design came from a user at GreentractorTalk.com and is pretty simple construction.   The dolly lets me store the backhoe out of the way & out of the weather in the garage while not mounted.  That lets the 1025R get it's 3PH re-attached and lets me use it for a few more things around the home site.

I cleaned up the garden, everything except the squash, pumpkins and corn.

Small but mighty this little B7100 with the middle buster made really short work of it, and now I have a lot of rocks to pick (it's never been busted up that low before)

It did the job in about 10 minutes, now I can pile manure to cure over the winter for some black gold coming planting time.

I am honestly surprised by how tough it is for it's size.

It reminds me of the phrase "They don't make them like that any more"

Sure it's a dated tractor, but it is very well built and very capable if you use it within it's limits.

I just made a carry all for it and tested it with some bags of concrete and portland I had laying around.

It will do 375 lbs before it starts to not lift any more, plus the carry all probably weighs about 100 or more.

It will hold up 400 if you start with it up, but it gets squirrely in the front even with the weights and loaded tires.

JD 4300 bought new in 2000.

I have a front end loader, 5' mower, box blade, rake and an attachment for the 3pt hitch to pull a trailer.

It really makes my life easier and is pretty much a necessity for taking care of our 10 acres.

Here are some pics of it in use.

Wife mowing the pasture

Hauling brush

Ready to add more to the burn pile when it dies down

Moving a crate of polycarbonate panels for the greenhouse

Hauling mulch

Ready to rake out the barn

The backhoe must serve as pretty good ballast.  The arse end of my Kubota would be in the air if I picked up a rock that big.  Usually if I have heavy loader work to do, I'll hook up the rotary mower for some weight in the back.  When I first got my tractor, I had quite a scare going down a hill with a heavy load in the bucket and no rear ballast.

Just kidding. Hopefully it will be awhile yet before the snow flies.

Loving all the Internationals on this thread. Had an 856 with a loader that I wish I still had. But it had 12,000 hours on it and someone else wanted it really bad. I also have a Super M.

Here is my loader. It is a Swinger 200 that was made back in the 70's. I repowered it with a Continental diesel. It's rated at a 2000 lb. lift. I've got a dirt bucket, manure bucket with grapple, pallet forks, and bale spear for it.

For my little tractor.

Don't laugh at its size, it is as big as I can even use on our hill. Bigger would be too cumbersome (the 2010 just sits). Hopefully soon I can get some more open land and give the 2010 more work to do. Until then, while on my hill this is my workhorse:

Figured things were dried out enough to catch up with some mowing at the "acreage". Trailered the 3038e over & hooked up the 5' rotary cutter.

The south fields used to be planted in crops in years past & had gone to weeds since, but slowly turning them to grass by regular mowing...

The north field has the road frontage and was pasture in the past.

Then there is the dam & area around the pond.  The pond is roughly the mid poind of the acreage, which is long on the north/south axis and relatively short on the east/west (think upside down "T" ..).

The land is the 20 acre portion the wife inherited when her mother passed. It was why we picked up the 3038e five years back to start reclaiming & preserving areas that were going to weed, briars and sweet gum.

huh?

you are looking at the PTO cover (shield), not the shaft.  the little chains, like on every other PTO setup on the planet, keep the plastic PTO cover from rotating.
inside the plastic PTO cover is the normal tri-lobular one-inside-the-other PTO shaft pair.  that's the part that is actually going around, and transmitting power.

nothing today as the mice chewed my diesel fuel line and made nest in the engine.

those Deere 4310 are so hard to get the the Yanmar. I had to take off so much to get to the line. What a mess. Then the local tractor supply store (TSC) did not have the size fuel line I needed. Off to farm and fleet tomorrow.

The 316 pulled this log handily.

Hooked up to one twice its size, just to see what it could do. Barely, but I was able to pull it out of the woods with my brother standing on the front axle for ballast . Forgot to take a pic

Had the 1025R FILB out the other day doing some cleanup in the woods behind the house.  The far southeast corner is pretty much not readily accessible, so I have been playing with some ideas about correcting that. This afternoon I decided to open up a piece of the berm by the old road bed to get started on a route towards that southeast corner.  Used the 1025R backhoe to dig out a couple of stumps on the top of the berm across from a path intersecting the road & expanded the holes into a pass through.  There was a standing dead snag in the low area behind the berm and I pushed until I could hook the bucket edge under the lifting root ball & topple it over.

That done, I took the 1025R back to the house & got the 3038e.  It is better for the brute force stuff.   Opened the berm more (mostly sand & loam with a little clay), scraped off some saplings & deadwood, and generally made for a more level path heading into the low area, filling in where root balls had left depressions and moving some large deadwood out of the way.

Pretty much stopped there for now, will need to get the chainsaw out to break stuff into more bite size chunks to get things cleared off and to open the path further.  The wife was out & she gets unhappy if I run a saw when I'm out working alone...

Continued pushing a trail into a corner of the house property that was not readily accessible. The house site is only about 4.5 acres, but the bulk is wooded. Mainly wanted an easy way to get to the property line corners and this one was the least accessible.  This has been a combination of work with the 1025R (mostly backhoe + some FEL) & the 3038e (FEL+box blade).  Finally got to the west most southern corner.

My resto project: this tractor was purchased brand new by a friend of my dad's in the 1970s.  The original owner was a vet who lost a leg in the Battle of the Bulge.  He used to drive this to my house on Sunday's and have coffee with my dad.  After he died, my dad purchased this tractor from his widow.  My dad passed in 2011 and I'm going to restore this baby.

ETA: it's an International 140 serial num 41930 J.  Yes, I have the hood.  Took it off to make sure the valves weren't stuck (they weren't).  I soaked the cylinders in Marvel Mystery Oil and the motor turns when I spin the flywheel with a tire iron, so far so good...
