My uncle Duane is my favorite pecan sheller! He brings me quart ziplock bags of beautiful halves all ready to go.

We have been using the Texas Inertia Nutcracker for 20 years or so.  Gives us pretty much whole pecans all the time.  I don't have a link handy.

I'm interested in this.

I bought this nut cracker for this year's pecan harvest, and have been *meh* about it. It cracks them, but you still have to peel away the shell. I mostly end up with quarter-pieces of pecans, with the occasional half. And my thumbs end up scratched to heck. I bought the rubber thumbs for paper/secretary work, which helped...

I have one of these in my arsenal:

From what I have read, dropping whole pecans into boiling water makes the shells crack more easily and results in more whole halves.  (That sounds a bit odd now that I've typed it, but you get my drift.)

Now if I could find an efficient way to get the shells and meat separated. . .

We use one like this on our Pecan Farm:

Some other friends in the biz use this and process far more than we do.  I believe they have 4 of them.

I've given some serious thought to tinkering until I come up with a home-sized version made out of stock ductwork bits and a squirrel cage fan.  All I've ever seen online is the big (and very expensive) commercial stuff like your picture shows.

Are pecans your primary business or a side business?
