Eastern Texas.  Just North of Athens.

There was a group of 10.  Too dark to make out the breed, but clearly geese.  Was surprised to see them and thought it might be a local flock...

Two more miles North .. saw 5 more flying.

I've never seen geese in Texas, in August.

It's been a very mild summer here.  Still dry, but the temps have been below normal.

Fair warning from Mother Nature?

I think it's gonna be an early fall. I've seen some small birds starting to flock already, and some dogs are starting to shed early around here.

Saw a flock of 15-20 going south the other day.

Trees are already starting to change too.

It's going to be a long, cold winter this year.

An early fall chill has been in the air for about a week and the gray birches are starting to change color (about 3-4 weeks early).

I don't know what the Farmer's Almanac says about this winter, but fall is fast approaching around here.

Squirrels have been working harder this year than I've seen for the last 3 years.  After last winter I was hoping for an easy one but my squirrels have been a pretty accurate indicator for the last 7 years

I wish the fuckers would fly south. They never fucking leave. The whole fucking neighborhood is like one giant pile of fucking goose shit. Try taking a walk and you feel like you're in a Vietnam minefield. Stupid fucking geese.

Don't joke about that. Last winter was quite enough for a while.

Yep, here in Atlanta too.  Been seeing geese flying for at least two weeks or so...  And we've had Fall-like mornings and evenings.  Great barbeque and beer weather!

Last winter here was the most ice I've seen on lakes in New England since I've moved out here 15 years ago, a little over 18" in SW NH.

This summer has also been the most mild I have seen since I've been here.  A projected low of 48 for south west NH tomorrow.  Many nights this summer in the 50's.   It's been a weird cycle, I prefer colder temps so it's been great so far.

Mildest June in 7 years here according to the news.

10" rainfall deficit.

Dry air does not hold heat.

NNY has the same.  Red maples are turning.

Kind of ticking me off even though I love fall.  My tomatoes are mostly  in a green holding pattern right now.  Garden got to be a jungle this year.  I wish I was more dilligent pruning.

Well I better order some logs for firewood now while I am thinking of it.

I hope some of the geese that have taken up residency on my lake fly further south and not come back. I've been chased at twice this year when I got too close to their nests. At first I thought it was cool to have them around but now I see them as noisy pests, I'd rather have ducks but the geese keep all of them away.

We already have trees turning orange and losing their leaves. The past two mornings have been about 60* and the summer has been incredibly mild. May be time to start growing my winter beard.

Have trees turning in my front yard.

Going to be a cold winter I'm afraid.

Need to start hoarding pallets to put a front on my hoop house chicken coop.
