I stopped at a Yard Sale yesterday and in the pile if "Free Stuff" the home-owner had out was three Dietz oil lanterns!

I snatched them up (asking if they were free first) and cleaned them this morning.

Right to left:

Dietz Monarch made at the Syracuse, NY plant in August of 1941.

Dietz Little Wizard made at the Syracuse, NY in Jan of 1945.

Dietz #78 Mars made in Hong Kong after the Dietz plant was moved there....Fairly uncommon for a 70s era "modern" lantern. Large font version of the #76 "Original".

The sad part was someone decided to paint the Little Wizard with gold wash to "antique" it......It had never been fired.

At least the Monarch is in exceptionally good original shape.

Neat find.

So, at the risk of being rude... what are they worth?

Not all that much.

Maybe $40.00 for the Monarch, $25 for the Little Wizard, and just a few bucks for the Mars.

Actually the Mars is a good little lantern as it has a large font (tank) and makes a great camping/patio lantern.
