CamelCamelCamel.com is great for this. Just put in the price you want and it'll trigger an email to you when it hits. Works wonderfully. Allowed me to get in on the $27.99 price last week.

Me too, I like the HAM radios they make, but some solid walkie talkies for cheap is nice too.  2 for 37!

I love the 888s, I got 2 and they even have a little headset thing.  For how cheap they are, yet clear and effective.....I'll be getting plenty of these, very nice for 17 bucks each.

Would these be useful for someone who is alone in the woods, out of cell service regularly?
Was thinking if one was injured, maybe he could use this to call for help, or give location info.

These are under 16.00 currently.   I have 2 new ones.  I want to  set aside some time to program mine up for family outings.

The battery looks identical to the one used in the UV-B5 and -B6 models, albeit with slightly lower advertised capacity.

Might be worth buying, just to have the battery and charging base as spares.

I have one of those 888s. They're great radios. We used them on a part 90 at work at the last place I worked. The budget folks really liked that I was able to build a whole simplex system for less than the cost of "one of those ICAM or Vertrix radios."
