THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
After having a cap crack on one of my 5 gallon "utility jugs" that I store avgas in I decided to try one out. It should be here Thursday and I was just wondering if anyone had any tips/tricks for these? If you have one do you like it?

I know that is why I bought one now while I still could. There is nothing else out there like this thing that I could find that isn't plastic and from all reports garbage.

Is this the oblong metal can that sits on it's side and has a hose/spout that looks like a small gas pump?

If so, Surf has one-you could shoot him an IM I've seen it, and if his was full of fuel you'd never know it-no leaks or vapors that I noticed.

ETA: Just clicked the link-that's exactly what Surf has.

My pleasure.

If you could, would you post the link where you got yours? When Surf showed me his fuel station it struck me as the perfect solution for portable gensets.

Thank you in advance-I should snag one before they are gone.

I have also thought about getting something like that. How much do they go for? Please post your opinion of it after you get it

I got it from here.

$20 off coupon: thc2012

It was $118 delivered to me in Nebraska.

ETA: They have an eBay store but the coupon doesn't work there I don't believe.

Also, the coupon code ends today!

I thought about getting one. Then I found a 300 gallon above ground tank with stand for $25. Needed a new hose and filter. Seller said he was going to take it in for scrap, and they said they'd give him $25 for it. He was happy, as I saved him the hassle of hauling it off.

Keep in mind Blitz is Bankrupt and liquidating... No parts, and no more of these. Probably ever.

Trial lawyers got 'em. Who woulda thunk that throwing full gas cans in fires was a bad idea?

Yeah I am aware of that unfortunate fact but I haven't heard anything bad about them so I think I should jump on them while I can.

They had good reviews on Amazon... out of stock there now.

I went ahead and grabbed one as well - had been looking for something to keep the tractor fed.

Thanks for the link.

Good to go if you can find one.

I bought one at Tractor Supply Company about 18-24 months ago for $119. They still had them in stock here locally last time I was there about a month ago. I like mine and have been happy with the purchase.

I wish I would have welded a handle on the top to match the one they have on the far end, so I could lift, move, and position the unit with my many lifting options I have in my shop.

I didn't think of welding a handle on it until after I had already filled it for the first time and I don't mess around with welding vessels that have had explosive fumes in them, so I'm stuck now.

I thought that the extra "handle" was to protect the cap.

I'm pretty sure it is.

Mine showed up yesterday and other than a dent in the one end (not too bad) it looks good! Now to get a stand made for it.

what's SOP for filling them?

I'd like to avoid the Jerry can shuffle.

First thing I would do is put in a little fuel (pint or so) and shake it then run that out of the nozzle to remove any oils or other crap that may be in it.

Surf suggested the first time you go to fill it have a piece of clean wood and make a fuel gauge by dumping in a certain amount (say 5 gallons) and marking the stick with permanent marker so that you know how low you are getting and how much you need to add.

On the farm we always just had them bring out new fuel and dump it in so you got a mixture of new and old fuel which is what I plan on doing here as well.

Also, it appears as though Tractor Supply has these for ~ $119.99 as well in my area at least. I wish I'd know that before I bought online

What kind of flow rate do you get out of that hose?

I honestly don't know yet as I haven't built my stand to set mine on. It is Saturday's project as I'm not going to try to lift the thing once it's full Hopefully Surf can comment since he's had his for awhile.

I don't get the attraction to these things. Pain in the ass to refuel, gotta dump in off of 5 gal cans so why not just use the cans ?

I'm not sure why you'd say it's a PITA to fuel but I'm 6' 6" tall so I won't have a problem getting above the tank.

Having a nozzle to use is easier for my wife than holding a 5gal can and I don't plan on moving it ever as I have at least 10 5 gallon gas cans around.

I need to get new spouts for the Briggs cans that I got as they completely suck but spending $50 on a metal jerry can doesn't sound like a good investment to me at this time.

I'm thinking of mounting it on a small pallet.

That way I can move it with the tractor's forks as needed.

For refilling, I can put it in the truck and use a temporary grounding strap so I can refill it while it's in the bed.

Still working great. No leaks. Flow rate depends on height above outlet. Fast enough not to think it is a problem while filling a lawn tractor.
