Good old 350 TBI, 700R4, NP208, 3.73 gears, factory towing package, upgraded fully programmable computer, intake and exhaust stuff, I lifted it 2.5 inches, running 265/70R17 tires, 40 gallon factory tank, factory skids, bullet proof front winch mount (will be building bumper and grill guard off of it), rear bumper in design stage, 98k original miles, with the lift it's sitting 21 inches high at the rocker bottom.
Didn't want anything stupid high or the draws too much attention, wanted a beast people are afraid to pull in front of, but nothing that says steal me.  VERY Die-tryin cloneish, his K5 is one of my inspirations.

And what I refer to as "Honda view point"........................................

Hard to beat the simplicity of the older Suburbans.
Simple engineering, loads of room, large gas tank, LOTS of parts interchangeability, etc.
As a BOV, it gets my vote for the ultimate.

.....and I'm a Ford guy.

Just upgraded my '98 4runner to a Jeep Rubicon.    Front and rear lockers, 4:10 gears, 4:1 transfer case, 32" tires, 6-speed manual transmission with anti-stall.  Just awesome!  Crawled by a lot of stuck, less prepared/capable 4x4's on it's first fun outing.

Took the trailer for a test hop.

This is the first time it's been on the road since since I put a six bolt 3500 lbs axle underneath, plus new paint and shocks in February.

Tows great.

Lighten up.  Of course it's driver error.  Doesn't mean it's not funny.

And "muddin" is not REAL off roading.

Do me a favor......don't speak....thanks........back to the BOV thread......lets all exclude mud from our zombie apocalypse end of the world scenarios, Maybe off-roading means pretty paved roads  and such for you guys or sandy beaches.......hardcore.

Lol.

Mud is a real scenario as is anything that is between you and where you need to be.  Whether it's a beach or a pretty paved road.  I drive through all of it if it's encountered while enroute to my destination.

I just find it funny that people seek out mudholes and purposely drive through them.  It's horrible for your vehicles.  Mine were never the same the few times I did it.

Funny that you felt the need to trash talk my "crap" vehicle.  I had a feeling that there was something deeper going on there...

Why did you fail to mention all of the problems that YOUR SPECIFIC PERSONAL vehicle has had?!!  Posted on fjcruiserforums...  Replaced driveline!?  leaking front axle?  leaking waterpump!?  dead alternator?  dead windshield wiper motor?   failing window molding?!!  lol,  all on a 6 year old vehicle?!

There's nothing wrong with FJ Cruisers, very good vehicles,  but their advantages definitely lean towards more refinement and comfort on road.   If that's not for you...sorry but the Jeep has quite a few offroad advantages, SFA, heavier-duty, f/r lockers.  Not crap though, I don't think

Oh snap! This shit just got good!

At first I was pissed about the purse swinging cock measuring slap fight that was detracting from this wonderful thread...
but now I just wanna see the other guy eat fucking crow.

Carry on ladies!

ETA: Oh, and IBTL. Thanks survivorman, this wasn't one of my favorite threads or any thing either.

That's awesome.  Showed my wife and she thought the car seat in the HMMV was funny.

Daddy you better keep a close eye on her. That hummer is a man magnet. Those boys at day care are dangerous.

The VHF radio is (finally) installed in the M1009.  The radio is a GE MA/Com Orion repurposed 110 watt police radio.  I won’t go into all the gyrations that it takes to make that happen, as I am no authority and had a ton of help from a knowledgeable friend, but the radio needs to be tricked into operating out of its normal range and the VCO tweaked a bit. Once done, it’s rock solid and sounds fantastic.

I’ve gotten several good trip reports on both simplex and repeater freqs.

There is no direct entry with this model.  I have all the local repeaters programmed as well as all the possible simplex freqs.  In other systems (banks) I have local police and fire as well as the marine radio channels.

The antenna in the picture is a temp one- I have a Larsen 2 meter antenna with the spring waiting to go on as soon as I can find someone to tune it for me.  It’s mounted on an 18” aluminum mast extension which is sitting on the standard military antenna bracket on the side of the truck.  The mast extension gets the antenna above the roofline.

The radio body is under the seat and the control head is in the center console.  The head is configurable with more options than I can use, but I have a button set for talk-around, another for adjusting the squelch, another for backlighting, five that go right to the desired system (bank), plus scan, etc.

VHF Common 146.520

Mainsail, I'd really like to see some more pics of the interior and radio console. I'm really close to installing my radio and aux switches and I am looking for layouts/consoles.

I already converted the ash tray into a panel. It holds the suburbans computer interface (running a DynamicEFI computer), a usb charging port, a 12v port and 3 LED indicator lights.

That's some nice work.  I wish I had those skills.

Here's the stack but it's going to change very soon.  The siren controller and light controls are getting pulled and replaced with a SmartSiren controller.  The SmartSiren box can work the lights and the siren, and I can program the actual siren tones out so that they do not work.  I'll leave the air-horn and the PA.  The siren tones are illegal and illegal to have equipped- right now the switch on the siren controller is safety-wired into the TEST position but I don't know if that's "good enough" if some cop wants to give me grief.

There's a red guarded switch barely visible on the left side of the console below the mic wire- that's a bypass for the ignition sense line to the radio.  The radio needs to sense 12v on a certain wire before it'll power up, the switch will bypass the ignition switch and send 12v so that the radio will power with the truck off.  The M1009s can't be left in RUN with the engine off- bad for the glow plugs.

I'm still considering adding a 440 radio to the set-up for even more coverage.

Picked the wife up her own BOV on the 4th.  Giving it some fresh oil in the picture.  It needs some bumpers a little bit of lift and some tires.
