Depends on the concentration of chlorine in the household bleach that you are using;

4-6 percent  - 2 drops in a one quart canteen for clear water and 4 drops for cold or cloudy water

As the concentration of the bleach increases the number of drops decreases.

I keep unscented bleach tablets for pre treating water. After everything is dead, it goes through a sand and activated charcoal filter to get the dead stuff out. Once thats done and the chlorine has been allowed to evaporate, it goes through the Doulton in 5 gallon bucket filtration system.

I only store granules and won't use bleach drops anymore because you can never be sure of the concentration and effectiveness.

We used to have a tacked thread in the Survival forum by an Army water treatment specialist and the thread had a great print sheet for pool shock granules.  I have the print sheet laminated and stuck in each bug out bag and attached to each emergency water container.  I used to store liquid bleach for purification until I read that thread.

I stocked up on pool shock granules as well. I was really surprised  (disappointed ) at the storage life of bleach. I still use bleach, but i make sure its fresh, then i just use the leftover for household chores.

Just an FYI bleach has a shelf life. Always buy the unscented and make sure to stick with store brands. If you want to listen to an interesting discussion about sanitizing I would recommend the following, March 29, 2007 - Sanitizing with Bleach and Star San Charlie Talley from Five Star Chemicals tells us best practices in using household bleach and Star San in sanitizing equipment.
