Sharing this to encourage anyone older who needs a pep talk to lose weight and get in better shape for their health and SHTF.
I was 5'10" 284 pounds ...knee's were going and I was only going to get fatter and lose my mobility. I had 2 choices: 1) Stay on the couch till death with no mobility. 2) Change my lifestyle. I chose the latter, Today is my 60th Birthday and I now weigh 249 pounds and still losing. 3 months ago I started walking a mile a day. Now I ruck 32 pounds 2-3 miles a day. I'm on a 1500 or so calorie diet a day. Baked Fish, Chicken, Ground Turkey....turkey bacon. I eat boiled eggs which I love...fresh fruit and vegetables. I feel much better physically and am trying to lose another 49 pounds. Change your life before it's too late!! Be SHTF ready. I made the right choice. Now I can survive better.. This is a Survival Forum....You have to have your health to survive..Most important to your making it. I hope I inspired some of you......get off the FATBOY stage and do something about it. You can't get up from the floor...you can't breathe well...always out of breath..Your knee's hurt..and you feel like crap. You just sit in the house watching TV and playing on your computer. Where's the Twinkies? FATBOY!! |

Great job guys!
I dropped 40 in about 4 months about 6 or so years ago now. 13, that's the magic number. Your weight x 13, that's the total number of calories a day you need to MAINTAIN the same weight. Example= 180 x13 = 2,340 Eat 500 LESS calories per day and you'll lose a lb. a week, eat 1,000 less calories per day and you'll lose 2 lbs. a week. That's not taking into account exercise, etc. Just count the calories, write down EVERYTHING, over estimate if you need to. It's worked and helped to keep it off for over 6 years now. |

I went from 300 to 197 ( insert car wreck ) to 220 ,,, I am 5'7"
I did have the gastric surgery to kick start the weight loss and with eating better cleaner food ( no fast food no soda etc ) I was doing great,, but that car wreck had me laid up and zero exercise means no matter how little you eat ,, it adds up . now having to start over on the exercise and the scale is SLOWLY starting to move again.. but keep at it |

Great job, and keep it up.
Personal story: I'm 63 years old, 5'7" and I was at 255 pounds at the beginning of August '16. I'm down to 212 as of this morning. I had a heart attack on August 12th and started on the Ornish program a month later. Basically a vegetarian diet with 180 minutes of exercise a week. 40 pounds down and roughly 40 more to go. |

So many are concerned with what weapon, how much ammo, what foods, etc... they should stock up on in case of disaster, never contemplating that preparing one's own body and mind is the critical foundation of preparedness.
Bravo, OP. The last few pounds are the hardest, though. |

Congrats!
Lost 50lbs myself. Still couldn't get my sugar down. On the pills now, and still going down. I'm at 180#. Feel like I'm a damn kid. The way you outline is the way to go, count calories. Its not hard these days with labels and smart phones. After a while, you kind know roughly how many calories are in what without even looking. This way, you don't deprive yourself anything. You just have to act like its money and save calories for this or that. As I'm typing I'm at 300 so far and not hungry. Its when you deprive yourself, go on some gimmick diet, you end up binging. Its the whole secret behind the fortunes made in providing meal diets like Jenny Craig. Those just wanting to lose weight, man, that's a snap. Try having Crohns Disease and Type II Diabetes. I have to cut crap out, not just down, out. No sugar, now there's a tough one. Of course, there's a bright side to everything. No sugar, man, its hard to hit 1,500 calories. Hardest lesson was learning you have to eat breakfast, force yourself. You need to for two reasons. First it evens out when you body gets those calories then it keeps the hunger down so you aren't hungry. Exercise, I started with my treadmill, a simple plan of go until it hurts. Sunday I did 9.5 hours on a Harley and though a slept like a rock, wasn't even worn out. Keep it up. Tj |

Congrats to all of you!
I'm down 20 pounds, going low carb. I was held up a lot this winter due to a knee injury, but now I'm back out and active. Started at 275 at my worst, at 254 now, hope to get down to 220 by the end of the year and add muscle. |

I was up around 240 after the start of the year. The heaviest I've weighed is 244. I used to be 6'1", but now 5'11" after years of too much sitting and too much weight.
Anyhow, I started keto 5.5 weeks at starting around 236 and was at ETA - fixed |

Bacon is not that bad guys. Thin sliced crisp is like 45 cals. Three is like a slice of white bread. There's like 80 calories in one egg.
Using round it up, a one egg, two slices of bacon, one toast is like one small bowl of Life Ceral, skim milk, and no sugar, a little over 300 cals. Here's another nice trick, I learned watching my blood sugar. Its important you have regular bowl movements. The longer it stays in there the more you absorb. Raisin Brand moves you. I call it bran with mini prunes. Anyway it doesn't do us much good to count calories if we don't regulate ourselves. BTW, a fun note. My wife is having real issues with this. Married 44 years and one year apart, she can't keep up with me now. She's ready to call it quits, I'm like the Energizer bunny still going. She's one of those lucky ones, never was overweight. Hell, she's 62 and still no gray even. |

Went from 310 in college down to 155 after college and I looked sick. Gained back up to 210 and felt like crap, so now I hover between 185-190, but I'd like to get back down to 175-180 this summer.

Congrats, OP! Keep up the good work!
I'm in the same boat and eating mostly the same foods. I'm down 28 lbs since February. 20-30 more to go to be at a weight level that I'll be happy with. I find dieting to be pretty easy (oddly enough because I love food), but I struggle with exercise. I absolutely hate doing it even though I always feel better afterward. If I were better about exercising, I'd never have to worry about my weight again... |

Great job op and everyone else here who has heard the call of Dr Death.
My story is short. January this year I was at 345 and going up after my chemo treatments and bad heath choices and I talked to my wife and I made a life change. For once in my life my New Years resolution was going to happen. I am as of today's weekly weigh in at 290.2 and loving life. If your on the fence jump over to our side. We have salad and meat. Great job everyone! |

Well done all hands. All I do is walk a couple miles a day. Yesterday I hauled rocks in a wagon behind me. Rocks were gathered up on the dirt road and deposited around the culvert where the soil around it had collapsed.

Under 200 pounds now for the first time in 20+ years. 198.4 this morning on the scale. B/P was 94 over 67 with my heart rate at 64. I'm back into shirt size L instead of XXL and when I bought some shorts a week ago I ended up with 34" waist instead of the 42" I wore last summer.
Feels good. |

My eyes were opened 50-days ago and I'm now down 27 pounds just cutting portion sizes.
I put on 45 pounds following my retirement from the Navy 12 years ago eating whatever I wanted to eat. Enough of that ... back down to my military weight within the next 45-days. |

About 7 years ago I dropped about 40 lbs. over a 4 month period. I've kept it off the last 7 years.
It's doable guys, you just got to work hard for a while, make the changes necessary and then LIVE with them. It is worth it, keep at it! |
