I keep 20 AK-74 mags loaded. Ten in a ammo can, five hidden in my truck and five in my bug out bag.  If worst comes to worst I have 90rds of 7n6 loaded on stripper clips. Also keep the same amount of Beretta 92FS mags loaded.

4 for my rifle is good enough (and probably still overkill) for me.  If I need all 4, I probably wont have survive long enough to make it through them.  If things get bad enough I feel I would need more, chances are extremely good that I would have had ample time to load up more.

That doesn't take into account what I have loaded for my carry pistol.
