I'm told by the supplier that they have the exact same shelf life as MREs, as they are the same thing just a larger portion. I wish I lived close, you could throw them to me!

Aw com' on-try them. If they smell funky after you heat them up you can always opt out.

But yeah I learned the hard way about buying food that I wasn't crazy about. Sooner or later you have to eat it or throw it away.....

Seriously?

That's considered fresh storage at my house.

Eat them. At the very flipping least open them and you'll see everything is probably good. Seriously, here is 21 year old trays that were stored in high heat- complete with pics.

I've got several (and I mean several) cases, so I've been eating a T-Rat about once every other month or so. I've had them stored in a closet inside the house since I got them and so far I haven't had a bad one yet. Sure like that BBQ'd Pulled Pork. The tamales were yummy too.

I'm still alive - had a member here send me one.

There's a writeup in the archives, somewhere.

And one on an ancient MRE, too.

Holy shit

I have a plate of those cooling in front of me as we speak.

I would love a couple of cases of them stashed away, but I don't know how they'd keep.

How old were they?

Taste/texture?

Can you post a link to the thread?

Thanks!

I wish I could find some T rats for sale CHEAP....I would buy them in a heart beat.
I would not care what the dates are on them as long as they are not bulging looking like they are ready to burst.

That thread is archived. Maybe if you PM one of the members, they can dig it out for you. They were two years past their due date, so that should tell you something about the amount of preservatives they put in their tamales

opened some of the BBQ pork a couple of years ago. it was fine, not real good but would be ok when your hungry. i have a shitload of the ham slices in brine. i figure the brine alone will fix any issues.

Ham slice... smells exactly the same going in and coming out.

I'm keeping mine as giveaways to my unprepared family when the SHTF and they've eaten thru their preps (a 6 pack of chef boyardee ravioli).  It probably won't kill them before the Ebola does.
