Other than f$@k  cheaper than dirt,  are these a decent option?
How about the filters, I cant seem to locate them for sale as backups.

The listing doesn't have a whole lot of info, the reviews were helpful to an extent..
I was thinking of ordering a couple for the miss's and myself just to keep in the prep closet.

Any info is appreciated.
Thanks.

It's a copy of our old M17. Can't change filters without removing the mask.
Surplus masks are a bad idea unless you just want something for tear gas or stripping furniture in the garage.

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of

"Something is better than nothing".

I am open to recommendations as well.

Thanks.

The M95 is a fantastic mask, and it's gotten a lot cheaper in recent years. So are the MSAs.

Buy them if you want them for looks, but they are a copy of one of the worst designs we ever fielded.

Why not get an industrial mask you can get the appropriate filters for?

In my opinion if you really think you need a mask you should just bite the bullet and get a nice Scott M-98 or similar with current NBC filters.

ETA:

Otherwise just get an escape hood

Don't do it; if a maskis part of your preps, go with a newer mask, like an MCU-2/P or the civilian version (MSA Millenium).

I'm looking into the NBC 40mm NATO SGE 400/3 Anti-Riot Military Gas Mask.

A 25 to 35 year old mask and filters is quite possibly worse than useless, they could well be a health hazard to breathe through in and of themselves.

This is what I was worried about.

Thats interesting.
I do live in wildfire country (edit: maybe not this year), which is one reason I started looking into this.
Thanks.

That design is an absolute nightmare to deal with.

There are plenty of M40 style out there, much more functional. If you've got the coin, get a PAPR setup. Doing anything in a mask sucks, having a PAPR makes it suck a bit less.

Are any of these designs incompatible with NODs?

What do you want it for?

What contaminants are you looking to protect against?

Like I posted earlier, the major concern would be smoke from wildfires.

Secondary would be anything else you would want a gas mask for... (shtf)

I picked up 12 new ones for $125 shipped a few year back on ebay.

It was leftover stock from some NY agency.  Even came with 24 extra filters.

one issue with that type of mask is, it needs to be removed to change filters. Worthless!

get a disposable 1/2 face respirator. more comfortable better filtration, easier to breath. gas masks suck to wear. unless your used to it. especially in hot conditions.

Not sure why I didn't think of that.
Solid advice.

Well, sort of.

Your eyes will still be exposed to whatever is in the air.

Your eyes are VERY sensitive to bad things in the air. even paint fumes are bad for your eyes, they are just a couple of big membranes.....

I have worked with these... As stated, the filters are a pain to change out, and you have to do it while the mask is off.  Better than nothing, but a lot of stuff can go wrong with them between the dual filters, tears while replacing, getting a good seal, etc.

if you know what to look for and how to maintain them i'd have no issue with them at all. gas masks are not rocket science and basic inspection is pretty simple. the biggest issue is filter availability<and safety> and spare parts.

those masks are a bad design from the start and parts and filters are non existent.  100% disposable and questionable filters at best.

I would guess that they are priced at $10 because they have no functional utility left and have the issues you mention.
I would also assume that if they had any actual utility, the market would have priced them accordingly
