I propose that to live here we screen to make sure you have a job or skill set that is needed. If not you you sit in a class room for 1 years time learning our country and its language ....but only after you invest 20 k usd. After that you'll be put on a temporary "resident " visa for the 1st three years...then you can apply for full citizenship once your schooling ..three years of work /residence or your 20k investment.

If you do not fullfill those requirements you get your visa revoked and deported once found.


My mom had to be "sponsored "..stay in location for xxx amount of days...pass physical exams..just to become a resident of another country....someone crossing a fence no matter their race should be sent back ASAP.

I honestly think this has some value here in survival discussions. It is a good insight into how other people, especially from other countries, views differ from ours. This may or likely already is something that we are all going to have to confront. It is the face an ideal that we are going to be battling.

If we limit the idea of survival to just hiding from our adversaries then maybe it should be moved. But if on the other hand we view this forum as a sort of marshaling ground for facing our adversaries in whatever field that may be, then it is in the right place.

Its a shitty topic, but it is part of the world we live in and it should be talked about, not avoided, even if whenever the subject is brought it it opens a huge can of worms.

I have followed this thread from its inception and I will just say this, this country was founded on the backs of immigrants to be sure. A robust and independent lot to be sure but. willing to assimilate and become an English speaking American. One of the things that makes this country great is that all of us spoke the same language. You could go anywhere in this country and carry on a conversation with everyone.

Over the years we have gradually morphed into a great and wealthy nation due to this kind of immigrant and due to our prosperity, we took in more and more of the lower rungs of other nations, refugees of all races, colors and creeds. It was a kind and morally correct thing to do.

Not only did and do we take in many people of less than great means, we also support millions more around the world in their own lands, to include shedding much blood in some instances for the well being of others in conflicts both large and small, known and many unknown.. This is no brag, just fact. Were we always on the right side of every issue from every outside point of view? Surely not, but any intellectually honest person would say that the US has been the major force for good and repository for hope on the planet for a lengthy period.

We are a nation of laws. This is another thing that makes this country great. We have policies in place to regulate the flow of immigration just like every other sovereign nation on Earth. These laws serve several purposes, one of which must be the preservation of our culture. A culture that will be in jeopardy if too many of any immigrants are allowed in too quickly and don't assimilate. This will sow the seeds of balkanization, which in this country, with all the different races and religions, will be a very bad thing for us and the world as China comes up on the world stage as they have a drastically different idea as to what the norm should be and at times a shocking history of indifference to human life.

We are now a nation in debt, somewhat weakened by both internal and external events while trying to uphold our ideals of freedom and prosperity for all people and this is no time for the added burden of a flood of those seeking whatever they seek, regardless of our laws or feelings about their presence, adding to our already gargantuan fiscal problems.

In short, we have absorbed many of the sick, tired and downtrodden over the years and at this time, for our own good, we need to be a little more choosy about those we allow into our country. Those who can help pull the wagon should be welcomed but those who seek merely to ride in it should be turned away. It's only right after all. Don't you think?

This requires us to enforce and/ or change our immigration policy as WE see fit and though the rest of the world may not like it, it is after all our country and the fact that some can just walk here gives them no more justification to break our laws than those who must ford the great oceans to get to our shores.

Well You and I are in different camps on this for sure. But discussion is always valuable. I am not sure if you realize the impact you have had on this board both for your contributions and now this. There are going to be many people on here who will feel like they have had the rug pulled out from under them now that they have heard your views on this. Having just spent a month in a hostel surrounded by Europeans and Central Americans I was a little more prepared for what you have to say. I have come to realize that Americans are really different.

As for my move...We are finishing up things here and hope to make a permanent move in the next couple of months. I am finishing my scuba instructor certification which will hopefully lead to some supplemental income once there. I have applied for some overseas jobs. If I were to get one of those I would likely take it just to give a big boost to our bank account which is going to shrivel to a tiny amount very soon.

America needed immigrants in the early part of the 20th Century to build this country and develop vast tracts of land.  Now, not so much.  The only immigrants who are valuable to America at this point are highly educated and uniquely skilled.  We don't even need migrant farm workers, want a welfare check, or foodstamps, etc., better learn to pick oranges, tomatoes, etc.

I understand the plight of the people who try to come here illegally, but until we can ship our shitty people to wherever these hardworking illegals come from, we have to fix the problems we have here on our own first.  Adding uneducated, unskilled, yet hardworking illegals to the mix won't do that.

To be honest I don’t understand why it is that anyone would feel like they have had the rug pulled out from under them. I'm not a liberal, I'm not a communist.  I dont trust mainstream politicians (no matter the brand) nor the bankers most of them work for. If anything I'm a conservative libertarian. That I don’t believe Latinos such as myself are plotting to destroy America doesn’t change any of that.

Maybe I'm losing it in translation, but you seem to think that all Europeans and Central Americans have a similar moral and political stance. Nothing could be further from the truth. Its like the idea some Europeans have, that all Americans are loud gun nut republicans or “cowboys” (heard that one many times). People from South America can be anything from communists to pure breed capitalists and everything in between. If I had to generalize, most middle class central and south American people are much more right leaning and conservative than most American middle class, mostly because they have seen first-hand what liberalism and populism does to a nation. A hostel would be though, the place where you'll come across more hippie minded type of people, pretty much anywhere in the world.

The point I was trying to make was not in favor of illegal immigration, but how the immigration problem was created and is used for political gain and in many ways fuels hate and division.
