Has anyone used Honeyville TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein)? What are you thoughts on it? I just picked up a can of bacon flavored TVP today.

I tried a can of beef flavored tvp.  I thought it had a dog food quality to it.
It is not too bad if you mix it into something that has a lot of flavor (tacos, chile etc.)

I'm not convinced of the nutrition value of the stuff.  I don't plan to buy any more.

I think it is nasty and there are better options out there for protein.

We've used it in spaghetti sauce and it was okay.  The only downside is that it's kinda dry unless you put it in some kind of carrier.

It definitely has a dogfood quality to it - heavy seasoning is required. Cook it with pastas, rice, and/or sauces and seasonings to hide its taste. Do that and it is fine, try and eat it straight and it's terrible.

It is cheap and it's nourishing, but unless you mix it up well it tastes like shit. It needs to be properly rehydrated, cooked, and seasoned to be really edible. But if those things are done it will serve just fine as a meat enhancer/substitute. It just can't be done solo if you want to avoid the dogfood feel.
