Gents, I'm still very new to DIY holsters. Been a year+ since I have made one but a new gun required a holster.
Question I have is will attaching the belt hooks this far from the gun cause any unforseen issues? She is still very rough and has only basic shape cut out.

Dual STI 2011s I did for a kydex competition on the Kydex forum.
I was going for a Templar theme but it's got ano assassins creed vibe to it.

I did actually paint these with model car enamel spray but I doubt they'll hold the finish long. It was mainly just for the photo shoot. 2 layer stuff is easy. Basically just press the same holster twice or if you have enough room in your heat press or oven you can do both layers at once. |

I am giving this some serious thought as my custom maker is taking 12-14 weeks.
Are any of you guys able to make money on the side doing this ? I have only read parts of this thread. Thanks for this thread |

I have plenty of space and am very handy with tools, just never done any kydex work. There is always a demand around here for someone to make a holster, just curious if I could earn a bit extra, 1-3 holsters a month would be plenty. I have a full time + carreer, and won't sacrifice my shooting time..that is my one true hobby. Edit to add: Gonna go back and read the thread when I get some time. |

Anyone crush a polymer handgun? Been using a mold prop for my glock but got a new shield and forgot about the risk. Ended up clamping it until the mag was loose and heated it with a heat gun, then let it cool. Thankfully that fixed it.

Here is a couple I did recently that came out pretty good...first is a holster and dual magazine pouch for a Glock 19 with molle attachments for a battle belt
The next are some print IWBs I did: 
Kryptek IWBs 
Edges from today. FDE and black. All done on a wheel, no hand sanding at all.

Has anyone ever noticed any retention issues during wide temperature swings?
A few weeks ago we were out calling coyotes and it was near freezing (35°-36°) and my handgun simply would not come out of the holster. Later at home (78°) it was tight, but went in and out fine. Tonight I heated up and reformed around the trigger guard to make it a lot looser. Has anyone ever experienced this? |

My finishing technique is from bandsaw to belt sander with medium grit, to sisal wheel, and finish with a sewn cotton wheel. I have been running the same wheels for about a year now. No compound at all. I'm is really about feel and technique more than anything. I got the sisal from amazon and the sewn cotton is a cheapy harbor freight.

Questions about eyelets:
Can the KnifeKits Master series of dies be used in a drill press, or is the arbor press a necessity? What size eyelets do you guys use the most? I am planning a lot of smaller projects and figure the 3/16 eyelets will be appropriate, but thought I'd ask... Are there any downsides to having dies that only work in a press? Will I need the hand setting tools in addition to the press tools? I'm not planning on doing a ton of Kydex, but my wife is also interested in this setup for leather work and costume making. I figure I'll eventually buy a (the) arbor press so it can be used with snap and rivet setters as well, but I'd like to keep this on a lower budget for now and add to it as necessary. Thanks! |
