How did you secure the containers to the ground? Very cool by the way

Cool! How much has it set you back dollar wise?

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you - Jesus Christ and the American G. I. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom. |
That looks pretty cool. The zombie sign rocks
What's the plan for setting up the shelter portion? Are the containers attached to the slab w/ some sort of bolt arrangement? What sort of ability in the face of a tornado are we talking here with them being above ground? |

Nice... so now after the next tornado you can say "shaken, but not stired".
I always thought one of those might make a good first structure for a hunting camp. Would be fast for a quick set-up and afer the cabin was done it would make for a good secure strage unit on the property. How much do they sell for? |
Man I read that and thought your neighbors must love you but then saw the finished pics........WOW looks great......you did a really good job on it...what kind of a lock is that on the zombie shelter?? and yest post more please
line the outsides with concrete and pile dirt over it!
That looks outstanding. I'd cover it in dirt too. More protection and much better insulation. Are you going to furnish it, or will it just be a shelter? What kind of permits did you have to get?
D00d... thats freaking sweet!!
I want a setup like that.... MORE PICS!!! NOW!! If its a zombie shelter you better cut little port holes in the sides to shoot from. |

Very sweet!
Bump/tag Curious to know budget, maybe some details on installing the door, anchoring, site prep, floor plan? |

i'm not sure i'm following the "rebar on 18" center" comment.....

Wouldn't a tornado blow that thing away? It looks handy, just not that it would withstand 100+ mph winds. What am I missing? |
Plus one. I also would like to know what the containers are sitting on. Great looking project, very good use of containers. More pics would be great too! Thanks, Merlin |

"Ammo...Buy it cheap .....Stack it deep" |
there is re-bar embedded in the concrete, the containers are welded to that... |
That's enough to hold it? Cool Looks like a relatively inexpensive way to build a shelter. just curious. So now the weak point is the weld to the rebar. What is the shear force required to slice rebar? sorry about all the ???'s, I'm just naturally curious. |
Very nice, shows a lot of creativity.
Doesn't look like it wil blow away if you welded it to rebar. |
If they are 40 footers they weight about 4 tons each and are welded together in the shape of an L so I don't think he has much to worry about....
Did the locks come with the doors or was that aftermarket?
Nice job! |

Very cool and a job well done!More pics of the Zombie shelter maybe....please....also the one end of the 40 ft container is open did you weld the other end closed ?

Trucks don't seem to fair to well when hit by a tornado.. |
Great job! I've been considering shipping containers for a couple of years now, but have never talked to anyone who has actually made a shelter out of one/several.
Question: Not to throw water, but in a tornado situation, would they really be safe? Winds get pretty gnarly, like well over 300 mph. |
Assholes spray and pray. Marksmen aim and claim.
Knowing you has helped me get in touch with my inner bastard. |

Kinda what I was thinking. Other than that, very nicely done. |

.308- because people have a strange tendency to get behind things when you start shooting at them. |
That's exactly what I first thought. I saw that first pick and I thought, man that's hillbilly as hell. (No offense to the true hillbillies out there) and then I saw the rest of your pics, and thought, damn, that's fricken awesome!! Looks great, and has great function. Lets see some more interior pics of the shelter when you get it complete. Very cool!! |
Lets face it...Masturbation IS the Universal Language...
Could you show us any pics of the door (particularly the 8x8 slider) construction?
Or the lock covers? The rebar was stuck in the concrete, then welded to an edge of the container, correct? |
Very cool idea & a great project!

How did you build your doors & locks? Materials list and pics??

Very nice! Might want to devise some sort of escape hatch on the roof.
