What do you think? From all I have read SA Sharkskin is amazing fly line. Have any of you used it? Is it worth 100 bucks? Thanks for the help.

i like my SA mastery textured series, i have not personally used the sharkskin but have heard it can tear your fingers up, where as the textured is dimpled like a golf ball so you get the benefits of having a textured line without the damage shark skin can do

How far do you typically cast?

If you're in the 30-40' range I wouldn't spend the extra for it.
I wonder if the Syrian rebels would appreciate having our 2nd amendment.

I have one in an 8wt but I have not put it on a reel yet. Last summer, at Kodiak, a companion was using one at the mouth of a creek where it flowed into Ugak Bay. He said the line was picking up the fine sand and becoming more abrasive.

I can cast almost to the backing if the terrain is right. I have SA Mastery GPX on my 3wt and I like it, but my 6wt needs new line for a trip to Montana in June. I have read good things about Sharkskin, but the abrasiveness and line noise sound like it turns off a few people. I may just go with the textured series and see how that goes.

the textured still has some line noise but its not too bad, i was torn between sharkskin and textured for my 7wt and am happy with the choice of textured

If I'm looking for a floating line, if sharkskin is an option, sharkskin is the answer, period.

I didn't come to this conclusion because of the extra casting distance it affords, which for me is only 5'-10' over any other comparable line. Besides, fly casting =/= fly fishing. I came to this conclusion because sharkskin floats far better and lasts longer than any other line I've fished (and I've fished a few lines). To me the noise is negligible and you get used to it in no time. I don't even notice it anymore. My sharkskin lines have never broken my skin. And I've only gotten one blister. However, it was a pretty gnarly blood blister last summer but that was after two consecutive days of stripping in 50+ 8" browns.

So for me, yes sharkskin is definitely worth the price. I would jump on that sale if I were you.

ETA: Oh yeah, and sharkskin doesn't coil.
