THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT My Submission:
I have started using this when spin fishing as well. I can tie a better knot (sausage fingers) with this than without. I use it for more than nail knots of course. I will show more of mine if you show me yours... |

Best thing I use are some Dr Slick pliers. I dont take a ton of stuff with me when I go fishing for the day.
A fly box, some tippet, pliers and a camelback. Sometimes a camera and a couple of beers in a cooler. |

In addition to the Tie-Fast I've got the Tie-Fast combo which also provides nippers and a hook sharpener.

Another tool or accessory: I don't wear my vest much. I have this: Dr. Slick Lanyard. I am actually looking for a smaller lanyard, but for now this one is really handy. Anyone else have a lanyard recommendation? |

I am a big fan of the "Scissors Forceps".

Nothing fancy. I think a hook sharpener makes the big difference between strikes and hookups.

I have an Orvis lanyard and a simms waist pack that can double as a chest pack-its pretty small so I can't over pack. Extra leaders, tippet, fly box, lighter, knife, nippers, camera for the trophy catch, some quick start fire starter incase I need some heat since I fish winter steelhead, phone, glock 23,
shit just lost power. I have a vest that I over pack every time I use it. My favorite thing to pack-a few pieces of deer sausage and sharp chedder cheese |

My favorite gear is knotless leaders. I.e. loop leaders. I don't like tying nail knots.

I don't use many gadgets, just the traditional stuff like hemostats and nippers. I zip-tied an old Orvis chest pack to a CAmelbak Mule and made a dandy hydration vest and I have a magnet and bungie cord that hold my net on the back.

I stole a needle threader out of the sewing basket, works great in failing light and eyesight, remember, if it doesn't fit in a fanny pack, you probably don't really need it ! Lol ! Words spoken by a wise old flyfisherman. My Dad !

When I learned to fly fish we used a nail clipper on a loop of dacron backing run through a hole poked in a 1x3" strip of innertube (used to straighten the hand-tied leaders). The zip thing is a big improvement. I don't think the tapered leaders are all that better. I do like the Orvis braided leader though.
The drags on modern reels is very smooth, but it doesn't work for me. Nothing beats the peel of a heavy fish on a click-pawl drag. |
