Try the smallest "hula-poppers" you can find. There are many other top water variants that come in really small sizes. I fished the Llano river for years doing this and had a ball doing so.

I use the following Clouser flies: minnow, swimming nymph and crayfish.

I catch a lot of bass on black leeches.

egg sucking leech with green or yellow eggs, clousers, mouse patterns, various baitfish patterns like perch etc. BTW bass is a BLAST on the fly. woohoo.

I've used fat deer-hair or cork poppers in various colors. I've had good luck with big white or gray/white Deceivers, like 6" or 8" tied with a stinger hook and fished on a full-sink. Same with a big black leech. At that point, you're closer to spin fishing than fly fishing.
