I notice a huge discrepancy in price for dual-purpose marine batteries. I have a 15' Gheenoe with a 25HP Yamaha. I need it for cranking and for running the 12v trolling motor. Any specific recommendations for a brand or minimum cranking amps or deep cycle MaH? Thanks
I live vicariously through myself.

IMO, the bigger the better when it comes to batteries. A standard deep cycle battery will be just fine for what you want to do. The 25hp outboard starter doesn't draw a bunch of current like an inboard so a dedicated "starting battery" isn't necessary. Buy the highest Ahr battery you can afford that will fit into the battery location. We sell Trojan batteries at the marina I work at and have good luck with them as long as they are maintained properly.
The combo start/deep cycle batteries are a compromise and I don't recommend them. Buy a large deep cycle instead.

I have one battery on my Gheenoe with a 15Hp mercury. It's a west marine deep cycle with the green label. Get the best one you can...

Mine runs my electric start, trolling motor, interior lights, nav lights, bilge, etc.
