What's compression look like.
That's going to tell you right off the bat if you're going to need a new out board or not. |

Do the basic checks and see if you have a viable engine. Compression, ignition, water/milky oil in the lower unit, general look see and tell us what you find before sinking (pun intended) $$ into it. Minimum compression in my book is 100 PSI. I like to see 120 or so.

I just got the boat home tonight. The poor soul that I bought it from didn't know to "Push to Choke".
She fired right up and sounded GOOD! I also bypassed the (broken) trim switch and the motor raises and lowers just fine. I'm going to dump the fuel (actually put it into my car) and mix up a new tank for the boat since the guy I bought this from probably had no clue that a two-stroke needs pre-mix. Life is good. |
