So I turn 40 the end of Sept this year.    Rather than a week ling binge like most of my friends do,  I am thinking just taking off myself and doing a 3-4 day trip.
I do make it over to NJ several times a year and fish  SH, LBI, Belmar areas for day long surf fishing trips.

Haven't really decided where I would like to go, or really what I even want to fish for.       Would like to stay between southern ME and NOVA.  Possibility of even splitting it between a day or 2 surf and a boat trip.     I have fun fishing for Stripers in the surf,  but also interested in a Tuna or Cod trip on a boat.

Figure I will start planning now and looking for input and ideas.

Thanks

That's primetime for surf stripers, blues and albies here in RI. If you've got 4wd (and $200) you can run the beaches in your truck just chasing schools up and down all day. If you're serious about tuna, the very best thing you can do, is call Capt Dom Petrarca. RFN! Those trips will be booked solid by May/June. He's a run n gun specialist. They chase tuna around with heavy spinning gear, throwing jigs and poppers at them. This is NOT for the faint of heart.
He is an absolute animal, and will do EVERYTHING in his power to get you your tuna.

First, what part of PA? Looks like we fish the same waters. End of September I usually shoot for trips a little farther south (VA, NC) for Reds and wait for the striped ones come October/November. Of course it's also going to depend on weather and water temps, but I'm sure that you already knew that. I would shoot for somewhere in the Assateague/Chincoteague area.

This.

Also down around Hatteras NC, I've fished a couple of overnight Tuna trips out of there on some awesome boats with great crews!

Southern California.  Get your Mexican fishing permit and catch some tuna just south of San Diego.  Or come up here to LA and catch some fish with me.  Supposed to be a great year with super warm water.

How about down to the outer banks, Hatteras, and get into some late September bull redfish?  No better place to do it, really.  I'll see you there.  :)

Once so far ( 4-26 )   One keeper and 2 shorts in Raritan Bay.

If all goes as planned,  next trip will be 5-17   ( on call this coming weekend )     Been watching the reports,  within the last couple days it looks like the pigs are in and eating bunker   The blues are now started up as well..

( also an FYI for anyone making these trips,  got the email yesterday,   new NJ regs in affect.    1 @ 28-43"   & 1 over 43"   if you have a bonus tag, it is invalid till Sept.  It will allow a 24-28" fish.  )

Changes to sea bass season also..  No open season for Sept, and part of Aug & Oct.)

Personally I think that the striper regs should be similar to what the red drum regs are and just keep slot fish all year. But hey, that's just me.

We've only got the little ones here yet. The bunker have arrived in huge numbers, though. It should be a great bass season. Our limit went from 2 at 28, to 1 at 34. It's a step in the right direction.
