Any of you guys going out for snapper this weekend? Season in the Gulf of Mexico starts June 1 and I will be there. Going out from Orange Beach, AL. I have a friend that operates a charter boat there, he knows where the big ones hang out. We catch our limit every time, last October in the bonus season every fish we kept was over 20 pounds, only culled the first couple of small ones. Taking my 81 year old dad again, he caught a 22 pounder last time that nearly pulled him in, I had to hang on to his belt to keep him in the boat until I got him to sit down on a cooler!

This trip was a bust. High winds and seas kept us off the water Sunday. Hoped to get out on Monday but the winds never laid down, 12-16 knots with gusts to 20 and 4-6 foot seas with the occasional 8 footer. Not too bad for bigger boats but my friends boat wasn't up for the task. Not to mention 4 of the 6 in the party were over 80 years old. Too much risk of injury for the older ones in seas like that.

Pretty rough over here off the Texas coast line but we managed to make it out and after a pretty bumpy ride, boated our limit of nice snaps using dead baits and jigs.

Misleading title is misleading.

I went out opening day from Orange Beach. Yes, it was rough, but we went anyway. All day trip, 2 hours out. Easily caught our limit and threw a mess of amberjack back. Fun times... but dang, it was rough.
