THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Also, which different lures should I be using? I'm currently catching them on either 1.5oz bucktails or freelining pinfish or mullet. I don't think I can get those bucktails as far out as I need them with my rod though, and sometimes that heavy jig is hard to control. I'm trying to jig along the bottom of the inlet, but it gets rough sometimes. What other lures should I try to use? The inlet regulars tell me that if the conditions are right, you can usually get a tarpon on snook gear, depending on the size though. Any help here??? |

I use 7' and 7'6" medium/medium heavy rods with 3000/4000 series Shimanos spooled up with 15lb or 20lb PowerPro and 20 to 30lb leaders. Seems to work good, but I have yet to hook into one of the 40" plus fish.
I even caught a nice one with a 1500 series Shimano Sahara and 6' Falcon light rod. Did take a while to get that one in. For lures I like Mirrolures, Gulp shrimp on a jig head, Walk the dog style top waters, and 3" to 4" stick baits. |

Braided line around the rocks.I love D.O.A Shrimps and the terroreyes baitfish.Tackle depends on your likes.I fish for snook and little tarpon with a 6 weight flyrod in the backcountry but it costs me in decievers! You can go a little heavy at the inlet on rough days and still get snook.I like lighter tackle because I get more fish to take the lure.

Scratch that 20lb leader. Go at least 30 and 40. Lost my favorite topwater to a big girl today because she sawed through 20lb.
