THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT catch some bull reds and maybe some of the sandbar sharks that were moving in due to the cooler water temps. I caught a small skate, a finetooth shark, and some small whiting. Fishing got really slow as the tide was going out and I fished for about two or so more hours and couldn't buy a bite. I wound up netting a 3˝" finger mullet. I cast the mullet out on my Avet SX and Oceanmaster lite 12' rod. It soaked for about 5 minutes and the rod took a deep bend and the reel clicker started to really sound off. I pushed the lever up to strike and all I could do is hold on and run up the beach to try and keep from getting spooled because I was deep down in the braid backing. I saw the blue of the spool peeking through and thought that I was going to get spooled. The shark somehow turned around and began to swim the opposite direction but parallel to the beach. I got it close for the first time and saw the dorsal stick out of the water. It was still green and it took off again. I fought back and forth with it walking up the beach in order to not spooled again. There was at least 5 times I thought I was going to get spooled. At about an hour in I was able to grab the leader and get her beached. She measeured 6'8" total length and appeared to be in good health. This is my new personal best on casting gear. Here are a few shots of the action:

Good stuff, congrats!
I've done my share of shark fishing nearby at Hilton Head, SC. Generally speaking that place is pretty much invested with sharks. You don't see to many big ones, due to most of the water around the area being shallow. Thats when I like to pull out the kayak... |

You are fishing in the wrong places....go up the Broad River and you will find some big sharks. Trust me. I have personally seen some "LARGE" sharks....above the Rt 170 bridge....... |

HHI its self, is either hit or miss I have found. The Broad River is GREAT, because you can catch just about anything you want in the waters around it. Especially for cobia, from what I have seen. I can't wait for cobia season this year, I just hope I have a job by then so I can fill up the boat with gas ![]() |

Lots to eat and a nice pair of boots, plus some graters for the kitchen. (See classical Japanese chef's equipment.)
