I will be heading down to St. George Island in the middle of November and was wondering how the fishing was that time of year. I will be staying beach front so most of my fishing will be from the shore and I will make my way over to the bay and pier fish from over there.

Any tips or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

I came with in a few feet of a 5' blacktip shark while surf fishing with light tackle from the first sandbar while vacationing on St. George. My wife says I ran back to shore but I say it was a brisk walk

I am not familiar with salt water fish species but I was catching 3 to 4 pound somethings almost every cast with various top water baits. It was a lot of fun.

St George is a beautiful place and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a nice quiet beach vacation atmosphere.

I'll be there in early November ... we're renting a house on the bay.

Any suggestions about bait, rods, line, hooks etc? Also will I need an out of state lisence?

There is a State Park on the east side of the island maybe contact them. Also as a FYI there is nothing to do there, the way I like it. I live about an hour away. I love the drive on 98.

Yes to the license but you can buy a 3 or 7 day iirc.

You can fish for trout, flounder etc with the same tackle you would bass fish with. I tend to use some "dual purpose" 7' rods with 25lb test on them for everything else. I use them for stripers and cat fishing at home and for mackerel etc at the beach. There's a tackle shop on the island so you can go there and ask for "whats biting" and how to catch it.

St George island is my favorite place to vacation, very quite and remote. But! be warned that its "old florida" and the mosquito's will literally eat you alive after dark, dont know if they will still be active in november but take your deet just in case.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've spent a lot of time in "Old Florida" .... I lived in Boca Raton and Ft. Lauderdale (40 years ago), Gainesville and a summer in Crystal River. I've also lived and worked in rural Georgia so Deet is an old friend!

Now to get some heavier line for my rod ... I'm set up for pan fish right now.
