A lot of fisherman from the shore this morning. What can you catch from the shore besides bait? The only successful ones seem to be the pelicans so far.

In Mississippi you'll catch Speckel Trout, White Trout, Red Fish, Whiting, and more. Sometimes small sharks. At night we wade the shallows with lights and gigs for Flounder.

Depends on where you're at, simply stating "Gulf" doesn't narrow
it down very much.

However, I believe your fish will come with their own oil.....

I work on a shrimp boat in Pass Christian, Ms. There is not a drop of that BP oil in our catch, people always ask if its fresh so I take a bite of a whole raw shrimp and they realize the oil spill cleanup is over

I always shore or pier fish when I head down to the Texas gulf coast. tons of fish for the catching.
Some people think I'm over-prepared, paranoid, maybe even a little crazy. But they never met any Precambrian lifeforms, did they.

Along the TX Gulf Coast from Sabine Pass to the S.Padre NS, shore fishing or more correctly wade-fishing/surf-fishing, I have caught redfish, seatrout, shark, blue cat, an occasional ray, lots of cheaper panfish of all sorts less than 10-12 inches, and once in a rare miracle a jack from Matagorda up to East Galveston. In the bays wade fishing, you'll often catch what's known as the Texas Triple Play - seatrout, redfish, and flounder if it's the right season and conditions for all three, plus ray.

With a boat, you've got more options, but onshore wading in chest deep, it ain't easy, but it works enough to have a good time. But if you're not careful with your stringer or live bait or some foodstuff on your person, you will eventually become shark bait.

We try to go to the Fort Myers area once a year and my Son and I fish from the shore and catch ladyfish, trout, whiting, sailcats, snapper, stingrays, small sharks and some fish we have no clue about. We mostly just use live shrimp, not to bad for a couple people who really dont know the waters that well and are just down there messing around.
