Look at that tiny little grouper.

Probably felt like your bait came back to life when that little fella hit.

Slug-o and I went to the Rocks on Sat afternoon and Sunday morning with some handsize Pogies (Menhaden) . Saturday was crazy. First cast Slug-O lost a nice tarpon, then he lost another one, me I was busy getting my rig built hahah. Final got my rig built and thru a pogy. First hit and it was a baby tarpon, I hooked it good in the back landed it thow. I say it was about 20 lbs, got some good jumps out of it. then we got into to the big reds. We landed two keepers by surprise, not many within the slot size at the rocks. The best part of the day was when I was reeling in my bait, I saw this huge fish following my bait about a foot under the surface. It was huge redfish about 4 feet long, Slug-O was thinking it was shark or a cobia, no it was BULL redfish. that thing took me for a ride,  I was using a Uglystick spinning rod a boat series and a Dawia gold 60 spinning reel loaded up with Power Pro 80#. That fish had that rod bent a far as it could go with the drag I had on it set. I still could not stop it, I tightened up the drag a bit and the fish ran on more time and PULLED. I SAID SHIT REEL LOUD. OH well at least we saw the BEAST. I am about the grill some redfish on the half shell in few . Yea that fish will be inbedded in my mind forever. Next time I will be ready for the Beast. Tuna.

Thanks. I appreciate it.  I live to fish, in fact, if the SHTF, I know where I'd be, and I know I wouldn't be hungry!

Here's a few more shots for ya'll to enjoy.

Here's a shot of my wife with a nice red she caught on a live shrimp at PINS.

Here's a shot of me with a red caught near Irish Bayou just outside of New Orleans...caught it on a salt/pepper/chartreuse tail deadly dudley

Here's my dad with a nice big Lake Ponchartrain bullred...it actually BROKE a Super Spook into two pieces...and was released right after we took the picture

Here's my dad, yet again with another big bull red, this time caught on the same salt/pepper/chartreuse deadly dudley mentioned above...also released

Here I am with a nice red I saw feeding...I pitched that same Deadly Dudley as mentioned above about 2 feet in front of it and he just destroyed it.  Can you tell we have a lot of success with that lure/color combo?

this King won me 8k. she was 39.80lbs I think
" />
this one bottomed out a 50lb scale and bent the hook on the scale. we tried to find a certified scale but they were all closed. so we just call him 55-60lbs. for scale I am on the right at 6'1" 240.
" />
this is the same big bull as above. you can see part of his lunch still hangin out of his mouth. when we cleaned him it was about a 5lb dolphin. awesome fish. both were caught last season.

Went to BSA Sea Base on Summerland Key and did their week long fishing adventure.

Caught a couple of lemon sharks:

Caught some cuda too.

And we were slaying the tuna off of Marathon Hump.

Lots of Yellow Tail and Mangrove Snapper, one Cobia, and some others I can't remember.

If you are a Boy Scout (or leader) and like fishing this is the bargain of a lifetime.  ~$800 plus transportation for a week of fishing, includes boats, fuel, captains, mate, all rods, bait and tackle.  Get to go off shore, fish the flats, do some reef fishing, night time bridge fishing and more.

Thats a hell of a deal....$800 for a week all inclusive (or mostly inclusive)? Fantastic.

Includes meals and lodging in a large dormitory style room.

Only meal it didn't include was one afternoon/evening they drive you into Key West and you are on your own for Dinner.  Including travel expenses from DC area, dinner in Key West, souvenirs, and other misc expenses we spent about $1,200 per person.

If you are a scouter and like fishing it really is the bargain trip of a lifetime.  You have to reserve a slot for your crew of 6-8 about a year in advance.

Did a 5 day trip out of San Diego last week and headed down to Cedros island.  Yellowtail fishing was good down there and had a great time...

a nice fish...

I lost one fish to a sealion...it kept throwing the fish up in the air and I would try and reel it away but the sealion was faster...
The perp getting scared off

The outcome

I went 4 years ago on the same trip and only hooked up one big fish.  Unfortunately the great white shark didnt like that idea and made short work of the tuna...

Off of SC? Care to share the general location?  Or even better yet message me the numbers?  That's a nice ARS.

My youngest son with his first  inshore slam (all fish his size) along the south shore of Tampa Bay.

He hooks them and cranks but needs help lifting them in the boat. Seeing him have success at something we enjoy is very rewarding.

Not what you're wanting to hear but East of Beaufort.  My buddy has the boat - i don't know the numbers. Honest.   Within 20 or so kmE by NE of R7 is my best guess. It's a wee bit of structure in the middle of deep blue.

FWIW, I was just there in July - we caught about (no kidding) 16 - 20 that size but the fishery is closed.    "Twas a hell of a day none-the-less.

Regards,

SS
