Caught a couple lastnight on a KVD Strike King crankbait in sexy shad color.

A weightless texas rigged 5" yamasenko in watermelon. I caught 6 or so on the edge of some lily pads. The strikes all came within 5 seconds of the worm hitting the water.

Went to Pineview reservoir this weekend, caught about 10 bass, they say the lake has Largemouth but all I caught were smallies, still had a great time. Caught em all on senkos, started with a 4" (I wanna say watermelon craw I don't remember what it was called but it's green on top and orange on the bottom). Then moved to a 5" Watermelon with red flakes. I tried the shaky head jig but I didn't like the rod I had it on for that at all. It seemed to be to stiff for that I think it was my medium Shimano. What kinda rod do you guys like for that?

My go to is the 8" Culprit plastic worm in tequila sunrise. I've caught more bass on these than everything else in my tackle box combined.
I've also had great success using a method taught to me by an "old salt" that used to fish my canal on a regular basis: use two rods, one rigged with a top water/shallow dive Rapala, the other rod rigged with a plastic worm. Use the Rapala to find them, and catch them with the worm. He would cast with the Rapala until he'd get a strike. If he missed 'em on the first strike, he'd quickly grab the other rod and cast to the spot of the strike. Worked every time! I started to use his method when I was 12, and have been out-catching all my buddies ever since (now in my 40's). Sometimes I get bored, and like to try other things depending on the conditions. Some of my favorites: Windy days with lots of chop = buzz-baits retrieved quickly across the surface or Rattle-traps. Lily pads/hyacinths = top water weedless frogs. Still days / calm-before-the-storm = spinners retrieved slow and steady just below the surface. I have a few other tricks, but the only one who gets those...is my son. |

Last one I caught got his eyes crossed and went waterskiing lol. Trolling a 10" Jake at 8mph when a 3lb largemouth hit it. He was skipping on top behind me.
