I exclusively use three knots; Uni knot for regular lures (which most directly answers your question), some loop knot I learned for top water and other lures which need a loop for movement, and a braid to leader knot (not a blood knot).

I've only fished saltwater. But I think my knot would serve you well. It is the best in my experience.
The Trilene knot. https://www.google.com/search?q=trilene+knot&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&hs=A5R&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=fflb&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&ei=EUjuT4eBDvG16AH6o7GTAw&ved=0CFIQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=639 ![]() |

Neither.
I use my own knot and have for over 3 decades now. It was taught to me by an old man, a professional fisherman on the Gulf. Its design is to break the line up in the line not by the hook which allows you more strength by using line stretch. That means catching bigger fish more often and on snags bending hooks or breaking them more often. Its basically through the eye, shank wrap on the hook, back out the eye (that's double line in the eye), and then a modified clinch which I alternate with a half hitch sometimes. There's virtually no tension on the actual end tie with a shank wrap, about anything will work there even a simple twist the hook and loop the line. Tj |

Tj I think that is called "snelling a hook " or something like that. I have used that knot too. |

My favorites is a trilene knot, but they can be tedious and time consuming. A palomar knot is just about equal strength (did a test one time on a bet, trilene knot was slightly stronger just by a couple pounds).
A jig knot or jig loop is also a good knot to know for when you're fishing with jigs. Lets the jig move very freely and naturally.
Blood knots are the funnest knots to tie IMO. |

Generally Palomar for most and the loop knot for plugs. I may try that Trilene knot at some point, it looks solid. I have used the improved clinch and its ok but I have had it fail more which is why I've changed to the Palomar.

Palomar any time it will work for the situation.

for me it is a toss up between the palomar and the improved cinch at the hook...really depends on how quickly I am trying to switch things out. Leader to braid I always go uni, rarely fails me.

It partially depends on how I'm fishing. Most of the time I use either a palomar or snell knot to attach hooks and either a palomar or trilene for swivels.
There are occasions where I tie an egg loop knot though. |

knot sure what it's called, run line threw eye twice, twist 5 to 7 times then back threw loops above the eye, pull tight
