Think it's a smallmouth, but we catch so few that we aren't sure. Wouldn't you know it, probably a half hour later, on a piece of hot dog, I hooked the same guy! Definitely the same fish, he had a big hole where he was hooked the first time.

It may be a small mouth, but looks like a red eye to me. (rock bass)

I wish I had my camera with me, these pictures were taken with my phone. It had some really cool coloration. You can kind of see in the second pic, there was a line of shiny aquamarine colored spots right under it's eye.

Small greeny, I've hauled some out of farm ponds that were over a pound.
They get really fat, and don't taste to well |

I usually catch a greenie when I'm fly fishing smallies on the ct river, never thought much of it.

Rock bass, more than likely and around here they are also called warmouth bass look them up I believe that is what you have we catch them in ponds and lakes down in mississippi alot.

Got answered a month ago... the fish in the op is a green sunfish. sp00ky posted some good pictures of some green sunfish, as well as some pictures of smallmouth and some rockbass for comparison. |

I also just did a quick search, because I thought warmouth and rockbass were separate fish, and it looks like they are indeed separate fish species, however they sometimes share common names (ex. Goggle-eye)

Nope, Thats a WAR MOUTH, there part of the Sunfish family, not the bass family. They look like rock bass and even a small mouth. Cought a million of them as a kid. Taste great with beer batter and a frring pan of hot oil.
