haha, Walleye aren't even in the same family. But yes, I fish Steelies here near Cleveland and Walleye and Perch out on Lake Erie. I don't know how to fly fish; for Steelies I use a noodle rod. Not too many Salmon over this way. Once and a while someone will hook into one on Erie though.

5 Kings on Sunday = all small though, 8 Kings on Monday = 5 small and 3 mature kings 20-25lbs and 2 beautiful Steelhead 1 - 10 lbs the other 11.5 lbs.

Both days off of Oak Orchard. The Mature Kings where starting to turning bronze already, so for you stream fisherman they will be ready soon.

I caught this King Salmon back when I was 14.

I don't remember the specifics on it but it tasted nice on the grill.

I looked young then....

I do a charter every couple of years over on Erie, but charter fishing is not really fishing in my opinion.

I do or have fished many of the streams off lake Michigan for steelies and use flies, but not with a fly rod. I have had pretty good success, but the runs lately up the St Joe into Indiana have not been the best the last few years.

I have never been before, but have a trip planned up around sleeping bear sand dunes.
Be going in September and fishing from the kayak. Hopefully get a few sleigh rides.

I've been going every year since the early 80's up to Lake Ontario.
We have a friend that lives in Mexico, NY and stay with him. Its 4 miles
south of Texas, NY (Hah - go figure). We dont fish the big Salmon
river, but hammer other tributaries. Weve got the run of Chinooks pretty
much figured out by now. Some years it's an outright slaughter. Really
not fair. Like 81 boated in 1 day unfair . Thats our record

I wont keep a one of them though. They are called mudsharks for a reason......

Oh yea...the trip is less than 3 weeks away

I'm starting to fish the harbor in Racine, WI, since they are coming in to the river. Hope to have some salmon on the smoker for the weekend.

Sorry for the thread resurrection. Anyone ice fish for Salmon or Trout on the lakes? I wanted to give it a shot this year in the harbors, apparently this is done extensively in Milwaukee and Ashland, WI.

I am glad you resurrected this threat. I live in Northern IL and was wondering the exact same thing. Went fishing in harbors from Gary IN to Door County this fall, and was slaughtering. Think there is a chance?
Butch: Alright. I'll jump first
Sundance: No
Butch: Then you jump first
Sundance: No, I said
Butch: What's the matter with you?
Sundance: I can't swim!
Butch: Are you crazy? The fall will probably kill you
Sundance: Oh, shit!

We went on a charter out of Oswego one year. I was really looking forward to it and then a few days before time for it a warm front came in and pretty much ruined everything.
Haven't been back to try since but I would like to give it another shot someday.
I like fishing up on the St. Lawrence for pike too, haven't been able to do that for a few years now either.

Don't be sorry, I was getting ready to post.

Getting the fever.......got the boat out today, started cleaning and getting some pre-season maintenance done.....mostly cleaning. Last year my auxillary "kicker" motor died......gonna cost more to fix it than its worth. Looking at new 4 stroke motors but they are out of my price range right now.....gonna have to start saving.

I'm going to Michigan to vistit family this weekend......gonna take the kids to Cabelas in Dundee.

Not on the Lake Michigan, but was on the Pere Marquette yesterday and today. The salmon are starting to show up in numbers. Caught a few nice browns as well.

Pulled in a 25lb Coho from the pier today... it's going on the grill tonight!!

Was using a silver/blue rapala shad in pretty clear water.
