Nice to see her in and out each season. How many birds so far in her career would you guess?

Probably pushing 2000, including crows and pigeons, pretty good for the area we hunt.  She did do just over 300 in SK last fall, so that adds up quick.

It is is amazing how the same dog looks so different from the field to sitting next to the hot tub, she looks huge in the second picture, even though she has topped out at 55#

That's awesome! I went last year and it was incredible. Never before had I seen so, so many very stupid birds. It's likely that most of them had never seen a human or a decoy. Must post pics upon return!

Well that was last year, and this year was 2/3rds less birds.  We have never had such a slow season out there, the snows and specks had 0 production and the juvies are 95% of what you shoot, I am assuming the lesser canadas were in the same boat.  We also got out there after an extended cold weather event, most of the small sloughs froze up and some of the ducks moved to big water or moved out, we only saw 50 pintails where we normally see 10,000.

But we still has some good shoots mostly on big local Canadas and some ducks.  Addi is tired and had a great week, and nice to be home.

Honker bale

Smallest Canada was 11 pounds, biggest was 13.27

That is a mound of birds. (I would be a bit freaked out putting my dog in an aeroplane.)

Wow! That's bad. Normally you see FLOCKS containing 50 pintails. It looks like you still had some legendary hunting though, especially compared to NH.

Coming to a close in a few weeks, seasons been pretty crappy despite great weather.  Had a great shoot today with birds decoying thru the timber, 6 bird limit with the first band for me this season.

Nice pics! I don't think I've ever seen a band that's been hit.

My new(1.5 year old) pup is coming along nicely but we haven't really had the duck migration of previous years so that he can build on his experience much. Hunting is a little harder here in the CT River Valley than it is there in the ducking meca that is Champlain.

Glad to hear on the progress of the pup!  Champlain has been really strange this year, first it is up 3' from September and that is awesome as all the food on the shore is flooded and available.  Birds will find it and we either get some sort of weather (ice, wrong wind) and have a crappy shoot where there was 300+ the day before.

Some days work out great but the weather has been against us when it should be a perfect year.    Take Sunday, the spot we set up at this time of the year, puddlers trade up and down the shore all day, we saw 7 do that, same conditions/weather as all the years we have hunted it.  We killed a pile of drake whistlers, a token greenhead and a pair of snow geese  saw plenty of puddlers in the middle, but would not fly the flight line.

I was thinking of you a couple of weeks ago, my wife was visiting her stores in the Claremont, Newport, Keene area and texted me she had never seen so many honkers along the CT in the 10+ years as she has been going over there.

Yeah, there are still a ton of geese on the river, but they are mostly in areas that are almost impossible to hunt. And the cover-crop/shit spreading techniques that the State of VT had farmers implement a few years ago have almost eliminated field hunting here.

The river is iced over now, but I'm going out this afternoon with my trash pump - going to chop a hole in the ice to access water so I can flood an area of field. Hope something flys by and likes the "open water".

And yeah, I'm really pleased with the pup. He's come along miles this year. We're going to work on discipline and casting, blinds and multiples this winter/summer. He'll be my second Dog Of A Lifetime next year...

To be honest the older I get the more I hate winter, but I will never win that fight with my wife. She is a full on winter person and really hates hot weather (even though she is snuggling in front of the pellet stove now)  I would be more than happy to be in Oklahoma with our daughter, than in the shit snow and cold temps for the next 3 months.

Congrats! We’re hoping for a liver female Curly Coated Retriever from a litter planned out for 2 years from now. Have to get on a list way in advance for one of them.

Good plan! I made the mistake last dog by not having another pup waiting in the wings when the old one passed away. I struggled to find the ambition to get out and hunt for 2 years until I smartened up and got another dog.
