OK, I saw some thing odd today and I need some feedback as for just how far out this is.

I took my 5 month old GSP out to a local wildlife management area just to get him used to running fields and looking for birds. Didn't even bother bringing the shotgun out. The management area is public with a private hunt club next door. As we were in one of the open fields I could see the kennel for the hunt club which apparently specializes in fox hunting. I noticed that there probably about 50 vultures hanging out on one side of the kennel. I thought to my shelf "shit maybe one of their dogs died", so I walk on over. As a near the kennel (I don't have much experience with pack hunting but this was the biggest kennel I have seen, prob. 30 to 40 fox hounds) I see that one side is filled with dead horses. There were two or three complete horse skeletons with one relatively new carcass. The vultures were still picking away at the bones and four or five dogs were gnawing on the body of the horse.

Now I don't have much experience with fox hounds or large kennels but I was kinda shocked. Nobody at the hunt club, should have taken a picture but I didn't even think about it at the time.

I guess if you've got a dead horse that's one way to dispose of it but I can't imagine it being healthy for a pack of dogs to just feed on horses carcasses for days on end in their kennel.

I agree with the original poster. This seems odd. Yes dogs are carnivores, but so are humans. I would be concerned about the rotting flesh after days of exposure, as the dogs will eat rotting flesh, and horrific Pedigree turds for that matter. All that said, who knows what is going into dog food these days. Humans don't know what is in their food. I can't imagine the rotting horse flesh is any worse than what goes into the mass produced dog food. Also, GSP's rule!
