Hello,

What are some your favorite places to get your outdoor clothing and gear?

I am looking to get some merino wool base layers, and a hardshell jacket for hiking. Best places for deals?

Thanks!

Online, I've had good luck with backcountry. com. Physical store, REI usually has some pretty decent deals.

My kid says "REI stands for Really Expensive Inventory" and I'd have to agree with her on that, but...

When they have sales, they have really good sales.  Their quarterly garage sales I've been to a couple times, sitting out at 4am, but it was worth it.  It's usually really hit/miss with clothing, though.  I bought my favorite pair of REI pants at one of the sales for $20 and they were originally something like $60-80.

I try to check the cabelas bargain cave fairly regularly. It's hit or miss, but I've scored some decent deals over the years.

Amazon warehouse is where it's at. New with tags scentlok hoodie marked $99.99 for $19.99

Local - REI > Bass Pro, Cabelas, Sportsmans Warehouse

Online - Sierra Trading Post for closeouts and last season stuff or Backcountry.com for new stuff.

I try to find Pro-pricing deals for military.  I'm retired 20 year AF and am now a navy civ so I have a .mil email address.  The deals used to be pretty good.  Northface was straight wholesale, but they axed their program.  Right now I'm in Mountain Hardwear's pro pricing program and the deals are good.  There are many others.

Rei.

I try and wait until they have the sales, but if I need something I'll buy it regardless.

Campsaver, Sierra Trading Post, and Backcountry. Between those three you'll be able to get everything you'll ever need at at least 50% off if you subscribe to their emails and shop sales.

Amazon is where I've spent a lot of my cash for out door gear.

I'll mention - Sunny Sports and Campmor - great deals once in a while

Also - OMCGear - call um - very stand up guys - I wanted to talk to my sons about a deal that was ending in a few hours - they said no hurry just ask in the next few days and they honored the deal

I don't have a favorite....

I figure out what I want to buy and then find the place with the combination of lowest price, decent company, etc.

Example: last spring I wanted a new high quality 3 man tent - I researched it and found one - I then googled the model - On page 10-11-12, I find a small mountain shop in Missouri that had one on blow out for 50% off every other source..
