They make good gear. I have used some of their stuff off and on for a while. I also used to sell their stuff. I cant wait to set it up soon.

Looks a bit complicated to set up.

How is it?

Yeah.. thats me... and I DO have a problem with gear. but for the tents you gotta keep in mind that is a pic of all my tents, and all my dads tents from about 1992 till present when that photo was taken.. I have a few more now and so does my dad. I added a MSR hubba to my line up for my single person and my dad and I split the cost on the big agnes above.

Have not set it up yet, but it is not complicated at all. the poles are all hooked together making it one piece, after you erect the pole all you do is insert in 4 corners, and clip all the clips. Probably a 2 min setup.

I worked in the outdoor retail world for 7+ years, so that helped my addiction.

Im considering big agnes because my msr holler 3 is too heavy for long treks at high elevation. Any reason you chose it over the fly creek?

Yeah.. two doors, two vestibules.

In fact, I just got back a week and a half ago from using it for the first time in Yosemite with my Dad. I give it a thumbs up, but here are my two observations...

I must say it felt way delicate at first, but do not let that fool you, It did fine, even with people tripping over guy lines.

The door openings. They are rainbow shaped zippered doors. which means to open it up to get in you have to open the door completely unless you are a small person. I am not, which means I had to reach under the vestibule to open the door enough on the far side so I could get in at the vestibule opening without trying to suck the tent in with me when I entered.

But as for an ultra light 3 person tent, I give it a thumbs up, good useable space inside, good vestibule space, and solid when erected.

My dad uses a flycreek 2 as his single person.

I need a very light weight tent or preferably a bivvy sack.. I'm hiking the High Sierra trail next month and if I can cut 2 pounds out of my pack I can bring a QRP radio

What tent do you have now?

The Big Agnes Fly Creek 1 and 2 are the same weight as some if not most bivy's.. but you can sit up, and move around!

Fly Creek 1 packed weight 2lbs 3oz.
Fly Creek 2 packed weight 2lbs 10oz.
Fly Creek 2 Platinum Packaged weight 2lbs 3oz.

those weights are as purchased at store, you remove all the internal baggies, and any other extraneous weight and you get lighter!

Ive done portions of the HST. Sequioa and Kings Canyon are easily my favorite parts of the Sierras!!

For motivation!

Kaweah gap ahead

Those pics are from last summer.. here is the thread I put up of my trip.

Nothing appropriate I prefer camping with a hammock but the area I'm going to doesn't have enough trees to ensure a reasonable camping spot. My bedroll is a bit heavy though so I'm hoping the bivvy sack will be light enough.

I just cant do bivy's, there are some ultra light ones out there now, but I need a storm shelter with room/ bug free zone. I am a mosquito magnet and just need to escape. People bring me along just to keep their trips mosquito free!

I am jealous you will be getting to see precipice lake with no snow on it.

Here's the setup I used a couple nights ago on my way up Wheeler Peak. The netting you see is the OR Bug Bivy and is 1 pound exactly. The SOL Escape Bivy (orange) is 8.5 ounces but isn't waterproof as water pours through the zipper in the rain. I always carry that tarp and use it as seen if it's not raining. I want to get Mountain Hardwear's Ethereal Bivy next.

Holy crap that looks hatdcore... I am way too luxury oriented to use something like that. I envy your dedication to going light.

That's quite similar to the setup I ended up with except my bivvy sack is a solid fabric with a mesh over the head section. It weighs 1 pound. The thermarest weighs 8 oz. I need to get a lightweight bedroll to put in it.
