THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I'm going tent camping with the family in mid june and I want to fly the US flag. Any suggestions on the correct way to display the flag correctly? I was thinking about hanging it with the Stars at the top, so Stars on the right or left? Just wanna do it right.

Here's a link that has information on proper etiquette when displaying the US flag:

http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html

The various Boy Scout handbooks should also have sound information, including how to lash together a flagpole, if needed.

Huh?

Attach the star side to the pole or stick or whatever. The wind, and which side of the flag you are standing on is going to depict whether the stars are left or right in your field of vision.

Etiquette comes into play more heavily when your displaying it with other flags. I.E. state, organization or other community flags, around podiums, etc. If displayed on a wall or something, stars on the left, if on a vehicle (side) stars facing forward. (Which means passenger side flag will be reverse print)

Thanks. All Arfcommers are welcome in my camp. Well, most of them anyways.

The pole is 3/4"x10' emt conduit. There is a compression coupling in the middle to break it down. At the top, an eye bolt is used as a pulley. Bent piece of aluminum for a cleat. The base is made from scrap peices of 2x8s. Last camp out, a storm rolled though. We had 30 mph gust all night. Flatten my tent three time but in the morning the flag was still there. So the rig is plenty strong. The only thing I don't like, is having to take it down to go somewhere. I have a large tripod I'm going to use to make a free standing pole.

I'm pretty sure MN has a law requiring U.S. flags to be made in the USA. That flag pole set is at Harbor Freight, so it is likely made in China.

How about one of those beach umbrella type holders that corkscrew into the sand. Maybe modify one to fit your flag pole's diameter.

They might work but where I camp the ground is very hard. You have to use steel stakes. The plastic and aluminum stakes bend and break.

My buddy is a good man for doing this while camping. We took a small dead pine and machete'd the branches off and lashed the flag to it for a nice straight flag pole.

If you're hanging it for display in a vertical fashion it is blue to the upper left if it is to be viewed from only one direction. If your flag will be viewed from all directions the blue field is to the north.
